Rogue Agent (2022)
Directed by Adam Patterson & Declan Lawn
Cinematography by Larry Smith
Titles include 'Chasing Agent Freegard' with James Norton.
UK-based finance and sales outfit Great Point Media is teaming with The Development Partnership, the production initiative run by talent firm The Artists Partnership, on a slate of feature films.
Great Point will handle sales and fund management on the titles, the initial three of which have been unveiled: Chasing Agent Freegard, Let It Go and Rose.
Starring James Norton, Chasing Agent Freegard is based on the true story of con man Robert Hendy-Freegard, who masqueraded as an MI5 agent and fooled several people into going underground for fear of assassination by the IRA. Norton will also serve as an executive producer on the film through his banner Rabbit Track Pictures, with Captain Phillips co-producer Michael Bronner also onboard.
The Development Partnership was launched last year as a sister company to talent agency The Artists Partnership, working to link clients from the agency with production partners.
Nada Cirjanic, head of sales at Great Point, will introduce the three projects to buyers at markets in 2019.
The film is among the first slate of projects from a new deal between Great Point Media and The Development Partnership.
James Norton, best known for his roles in McMafia and War & Peace, is set to play real-life British con man Robert Hendy-Freegard in upcoming feature Chasing Agent Freegard.
The film is one of three projects coming under a newly announced partnership between finance and sales banner Great Point Media and The Development Partnership, the production arm of talent agency The Artists Partnership, who have teamed to develop multiple films with a range of producing partners.
Chasing Agent Freegard, which Norton will also executive produce through his recently-launched outfit Rabbit Track Pictures, comes from Captain Phillips co-producer Michael Bronner, and is based on the story of Hendy-Freegard, who masqueraded as an MI5 agent and fooled several people into going underground for fear of assassination by the IRA.
"Our partnership with Great Point goes from strength to strength and Jim and his team have been the perfect collaborators as we have built this film slate and as we continue to build projects and businesses with clients," added Robert Taylor from The Development Partnership.
Nada Cirjanic, head of sales for Great Point, will be representing all three films and introducing them to buyers in 2019.

The Artists Partnership, the UK agency that looks after the likes of Idris Elba and Emily Blunt, is moving into production.
The company has launched The Development Partnership to develop and produce television and films. It is the latest agency to move into the production space.
Headed up by Robert Taylor and group CEO Roger Charteris, The Development Partnership will work with its client list to develop projects. It will work with third party production companies on a project-by-project basis. It is currently working on scripted projects Marcella star Anna Friel and Joseph Fiennes and a feature film with McMafia star James Norton.
It already has three talent-lead premium factual series in production and a slate of feature films and scripted television projects with an array of clients and producing partners in development. It is set to hire a scripted and a non-scripted development head in the next few weeks.
Taylor said, “The identity of the agency, especially for the last 10 years, has been to encourage the client base to be entrepreneurial and to view themselves, and their creative output, as a business that is theirs to grow. As we have seen that bear fruit in recent years, with clients creating and producing shows, and in some cases starting their own production companies, we wanted to make sure we had an infrastructure in place within the group that allowed us to offer a place where those ideas could be incubated and we could creatively partner with our clients on seeing them to fruition.”
The increasing demand for original film and TV content has resulted in players targeting earlier stages of the production process. Now talent agencies, in both the U.K. and the U.S., are arriving earlier to the dance.
The latest agency to dive into content creation is The Artists Partnership (TAP), which is launching The Development Partnership (TDP) with a slate that includes a new take on Cyrano de Bergerac from Joseph Fiennes, a drama series with Anna Friel and a film project about a real-life con man, with James Norton.
TAP, which is part of the Marcus Evans group, aims to focus on nascent development; its new sister operation, TDP, is working with clients from the main agency and its book-to-film department, then going out to find production partners. The TDP team is aware that there are some sticky questions over agents getting into production – the effect it has on agents’ relationships with actors and with producers, for instance – but says it wants to go about things in a way that addresses such concerns.
“We want to have a development infrastructure but not be a fully fledged production entity,” says Robert Taylor, who is heading TDP. “On a case-by-case basis, we want to find the right production company to partner with, and to partner the talent with.”
TAP’s roster of stars includes Emily Blunt, Idris Elba and Fiennes, among other big names. Taylor says the agency’s new initiative will provide actors with a fresh outlet.[…]
TDP has partnered with several established industry players for its first projects, which are being shopped to broadcasters, platforms and financiers. Fiennes is attached to executive produce and star in “Cyrano.” Also on board are DRG and its drama-commissioning entity Atrium TV, which counts the likes of BT, Orange and Televisa as members.
“McMafia” star Norton is attached to topline and exec produce “Chasing Agent Freegard.” The film is from “Captain Phillips” co-producer Michael Bronner and based on the true story of con man Robert Hendy-Freegard. Friel, star of Netflix and ITV drama “Marcella,” is attached to produce and star in “Borderlands,” which will be a TDP and Monumental co-production. It’s based on the memoirs of airport doctor Stephanie Green, and being set up as a six-part series.
