the expanse could have been so powerful if it was actually interested in exploring relationship anarchy beyond its clumsy overtures towards “queer representation” that fail to actually deconstruct the normative forces it is writing against; belter culture is largely anarchic both in its social structure (de-centralized and self-organizing) and culture (which emerges from and emphasizes mutual dependence, with a language that destabilizes gender, the family, etc), yet the writing of its interpersonal relationships largely replicates conventional assumptions about relationship structures and categories, and thus inheriting the same predetermined hierarchies and ideals (with very similar problems showing up in its supposed post-contemporary vision of earth) -- all of this culminating in having a straight, monogamous relationship (double default) as the main romance of the show -- its primary space for exploring themes of love and intimacy; which is also what underlies most of the limitations in its portrayals of polyamory (both with holden’s parents and camina’s family)

That person that told me the show is better to be watched after some time after having read the books was so right fjsjsjs I can handle changes but I'm pretty fucking annoyed about everything they've done with Holden in the second episode 💀 Insanely out of character, what do you mean he threw a fit like a baby instead of listening to Naomi after she told him to not go after the ship that destroyed the Canterbury, he would never do that shit he's fully aware Naomi is really fucking smart and listens to her
