The Knell - Winter Shade XIII (by Alec Zalogin)

She never liked the taste of liquor until it was on his lips. That smooth smoky flavor that left her wanting more. The slow tingling feeling that only he could give her was spreading through out her soul. He laughed because only she could get drunk on kisses alone. He lifted that glass of amber liquid to his lips and took another sip. The night was long and the scotch strong, and for this minute alone they were each others.
The sweet heady taste of wine brings me you. I lost you long ago somewhere on the path where I stopped being me. In the haze I see you returning, holding my heart. The unsteadiness of my heart translates to my feet as I run to the mirage that is you. I am losing my mind, but I swear I am ready for love. So pour me another glass of that lilac wine.
Maelstrom
You keeping pulling me into your vortex of destruction. I try so hard to resist, but I cannot never turn down your turbulent kiss. So draw me in. Draw me in. I will reside in the murky depths of your heart. I ride out this whirlpool of pain, for a moment of pleasure in your arms.
If you handed me the moon, I would give it right back.
I don't need anything other than your love,
And yet you keep offering me everything but.
You scour the galaxy to find me all bits of treasure.
But baby can't you see that all I hold dear is your heart?
So just this once stay with me, instead of circling the stars.
The quiet in the hallway alerts me to the incoming trauma long before I hear the beat of the helicopter blades. I feel like I have lived most of my life in this hospital bed. I know better than most the feel of impending death. In a few minutes time doctors and nurses will go rushing by with another poor soul fighting for their life, and like a monster I will be hoping that if they fail their heart will match mine. I do not actively hope for their deaths, but I will not lie when I say that if that comes to pass I will feel a moment of hope. I was born in this place, and it is here that I sit dying. I came in on that same helicopter, and I will never forget my husband's tears as they said my heart was broken. So please forgive me if every time I hear those whirling blades I pray for a blood that matches mine.
I am standing on the edge looking down from the higher ground. I can see the masses writhing below. Behind me I hear my mother saying "Remember to always take the high road.", but the multitude of voices below are swaying me. They feel all the pleasure the world has to offer, and I just rise above the pain. I carry so many burdens, so many responsibilities. They just toss their luggage carelessly to the side. I see him down below arms outstretched begging me to jump down.
I watch her standing so lofty above me. That silent judge condemning me. I hate her because she is so damn untouchable, but I long for that innocence. . All around me people are saying "this is the life", but I wonder if the one she lives is less tiring. All I feel anymore is a heavy weight pressing down on my soul. And there she stands above, and I hold out my arms beseeching her to pull me up.
If only I had the nerve to take a taste of sin.
If only I had the strength to climb out of this pit.
