did you always plan to play Augustus as a womanizer
Geez - have I ever had this thing sitting in my inbox...It’s been like what, a week? And I still haven’t found the way to put all my feelings about this ask into one post.
The answer is YES and NO.
NO: (has to come first for the YES to make sense)I do not intend for his portrayal to come across as a womanizer, for the simple sake of being one. Make no mistake, my portrayal of Augustus very much loves Livia. And in verses where she is around there is no one more important than she is. In verses where she is not a factor... of COURSE he indulges himself in the company of other women. Why wouldn’t he? He is a powerful man with the means to do so. I don’t believe he does so simply for the sake of it. But if we are going to pretend that he completely ignored the opposite sex... we’re being naive. But it is not my intention to make it seem as if women, and sex, and relationships RULE his being. No, they’re simply a byproduct of his circumstances. And he can easily deprive himself. Or should he feel that any one relationship is interfering with his main goal... he’d certainly do away with it.
YES:Like I mentioned, he would very much enjoy the company of other women and allow himself to do so. It’s really apart of his character development for me, anyway. Initially we see a young boy who can’t see the importance of having relations with a woman. A growing young man who doesn’t seem as interested in sexuality as those his age must be. Then to a powerful man that uses his power to his advantage. With that WOULD come the increase in women in his life. So to a certain extent, I made it a point to illustrate this because I think most depictions don’t. Most act as if he was scared, or repulsed by relationships and sexuality in general, imo. So I wanted to take that head on.
TLDR ; there’s a balance. That’s key in making this authentic and doing this part of his character justice.
"A mutual acquaintence suggested I introduce myself. I don't usually take such edicts disguised as advice - in fact I'd ordinarily do the exact opposite out of simple awkwardness. But I have a inkling you are the type of connection I need to make" (from EvilKit)
“I seldom entertain such suggestions,” He does very littles to slow his gait.Either she keeps up, or she will be forgotten. Those are the rules.
“for you see - I would be entertaining them quite often.” having amended to majority whip had seen many a change for Augustus. Least of them beingthe throngs of mutually beneficial acquaintances coming forth. Everyone could do one another a favor - or so they would have him believe. This did not interest Augustus in the slightest.
For he had but one goal.
And by the once-over permitted to the young woman - the rhythmic clickingof her stride not yet failing to her credit - Augustus could not see how shewould get him any closer.
“So tell me, what can our connection do to serve us both?”
All of this had started over that mess — all over some young child who’d been found in the temple among the religious teachers. They reported the young boy had been listening, and asking questions, but it had been his understanding and own answers which had amazed the elders.
And now, the elders were in some sort of uproar, although Augustus could not quite fathom why.
Their mutterings had made its way to the very ears of Caesar rather quickly. It was
noteworthy, really. But then again it would have been more rare should it have
managed to escape him.
"Announce the arrival of Caesar to the elders," one of the soldiers barked to one of the men
of the small town, while the Imperator remained astride of the white stallion.
Augustus’ eyes cut down slightly from the vantage point he was afforded.
Assessing the surroundings — with luck this would tidy itself up quickly.
"Is that so, Boleyn? You do not strike Caesar as the type to worry yourselfover such frivolous holidays. But that does not mean that I do not appriciate your attire.”

✿ - laugh: Augustus does not laugh often. But when he does it can vary between a short burst and a much fuller and rich laughter. It would depend on the situation and cause for it.
