My itty bitty dust mite covered in dustbunny fluff... isn't any more. By the time he's done, "Tiny" will be about as appropriate a nickname as "Little John." A couple of weeks ago, as I was requesting the next few months' heartworm meds from my vet, I guessed that at his current rate of growth, Tristan would be 20 pounds by mid-November. Well, he got there about a month early. I keep looking for the growth spurts I've seen in other puppies on dogblr, the ones where they suddenly have twice as much nose and three times as much leg as their bodies require. We haven't experienced these yet. Tris is 24 weeks old today (if I counted correctly from May 5). How much bigger is this boy going to get? Looks like I promised right when I told Yvie we were getting the starter kit (she wanted to bring Tristan's dad home, not the wriggly puppy). [Image Description: two cocker spaniels lay on a light blue mat in a kitchen. Even considering that one is clipped and one is floofy, their backs and legs are the same length. Both look happily eager, and the one visible tail is blurred from wagging.]

Our top kung-flu fighting herbal tea recipes for kicking those winter sniffles’ butts
#1 Our “Raid the Cupboard” Cold and Flu Fixer
We thought we’d kick things off with a really simple, basic recipe.
And, while this might not be quite as tasty as some of the other herbal tea recipes on this list, it’s perfect for when you’re feeling run down and just want to throw some things together and start feeling better.
You’ll need:
3 cups of water
Half a lemon (juiced) + a few extra slices
A cinnamon stick
3 chunky slices of fresh ginger
¼ tsp cloves (optional)
3/4 tbsp. turmeric (again, optional)
A pinch or two of cayenne
1 ½ tbsp raw honey (if you’ve got a sweet tooth, add more. Also, if you can get local honey, that’s even better. However, remember that it’s not suitable to give to children under 1.) Then, add all of your ingredients (minus the honey) to a pot and bring to the boil. Once at a rolling boil, let it simmer for ten minutes or so. Then, add the honey, taste, add a little more honey if it’s not sweet enough, and then strain. Finally, add the slices of lemon and drink while it’s still warm.
Why it’s so awesome:
The lemon’s full of vitamin C, which is great for a cold, the ginger settles your stomach and the turmeric has awesome anti-inflammatory properties that’ll help you get back on your feet in no time. Well, you can also try the starter kit which is also full of nutrition.
#2: Our “Raid the Cupboard (and the Garden)” Kung-Flu Fighter
If you’ve got a garden full of herbs (or even a fridge full of herbs), here’s an upgrade on our “Raid the Cupboard” recipe that’s tastier and even better at karate chopping those pesky sniffles away.
You’ll need:
1 cup of water
A thumb of fresh ginger, grated (skin and all)
1/2 a lemon (plus, a few extra slices)
1 tbsp local honey (any honey will do, if you don’t have local honey)
1/2 tbsp sea salt
A generous pinch of cayenne
Optional Extras:
A good pinch of fresh peppermint leaves
A good pinch of fresh thyme leaves
A good pinch of fresh oregano leaves
A few lemon balm leaves
These are all great for you and this recipe is pretty adaptable, so you can mix and match with what you have in your garden or fridge.
What to do:
Boil your cup of water, add the honey, ginger, salt and lemon juice and stir until everything is dissolved and incorporated. Then, add your medicinal herbs of choice give them a quick muddle with the back of your teaspoon and let it steep for 4-5 minutes.
Then sip, take long inhales of the steam to clear your sinuses and say goodbye to your annoying cold.
Why it’s so awesome:
Like the other recipe, the lemon and ginger do a tonne of the heavy lifting here, but the medicinal herbs — the thyme, oregano, peppermint and lemon balm — are no slouch either, bringing their stomach-settling, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, headache-busting, heartburn-healing superpowers to the table. Plus, it tastes pretty good, too. So, if you are looking for more information regarding herbal tea recipes and wants to buy the kit, feel free to contact Plantables. What is the “God Machine Chronicle”?
Basically, it’s an RPG set in the New World of Darkness by White Wolf. If you’re familiar with games like Call of Cthulhu, where the outcome is usually pretty bleak for the player characters in the long run, you may find this is right up your alley. I won’t bother explaining in too much detail, as it’s already been done fairly well here: http://whitewolf.wikia.com/wiki/The_God-Machine_Chronicle.
Having said that, I will warn anyone reading this who is even somewhat religious that the RPG could qualify as blasphemous. The RPG never says if the God Machine is actually, say, the christian God or if it’s just a disguise it uses to fulfill it’s plans a little easier. Like most of the New World of Darkness books, it never lays out definite rules on what is or is not so that a wider range of people can join in without worrying about religious debates. You can fit the RPG to suit your chronicle in any manner you want. Do you want a similar feel to the RPG Kult? Go for it. Want something a little less secular? Do it.
Having said that, I do tend to go for dark in my chronicles and leave a lot of unanswered questions. You won’t find light and pretty in my tumblr unless it somehow fits what I want or can inspire in some way. If you’re looking for classic angel and demon designs, you probably won’t find them here. I feel that those kinds of resources are much easier to find than the fractal clockwork that really inspires me.
Just as a way to end this post, I’ll go ahead and say that the God Machine Chronicle is fiction. I don’t actually believe in the God Machine itself, I’m not trying to turn children into Satanists, and I hope that the nutjobs that darken the farthest corners of the internet will leave me out of their conspiracy theories. Thanks.
