The Crucible download..success! Finally!
Okay, so it's taken me 16 days, 3 attempts at downloading, several emails to DT Support, uninstalling and reinstalling Digital Theatre Player & Adobe Air, but finally The Crucible is mine! Complete with matching subtitles! YAY! So, what have I missed in Armitage-land?!? 😉
Tonight I get to watch The Crucible on screen!
Thoughts on The Crucible
Yaël Farber’s production is a pure gem.
Digital Theatre is great for making it accessible. Best seat in the house.
Pay attention to hands. So much of the story is in the hands of the various actors.
And feet. Proctor wears heavy boots. Proctor is barefoot. Subtle, but so powerful.
Abigail is magnificently played. So much so, I can’t even really find it in myself to hate her!
Reverend Hale. Such a subtle performance, but absolutely makes the play.
Just say Yes, Elizabeth. Just this once, please, say Yes.
Elizabeth and John Proctor’s relationship is so beautifully executed, so realistic and true.
"He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him." The ending gives me hope.
Standing ovations in the cinema. I just never managed to uncurl myself from my fetal position in time to join in.

However, with all this said, it is the performance of Richard Armitage which truly shines, as his John Proctor is so multi-faceted – so commanding, so energised, so immersed in empathetic vitriol, heat and passion – it is impossible to take ones eyes from the screen.

The Crucible on Screen should carry a health and safety warning: DO NOT WATCH ALONE. I have such a need to discuss it, I actually offered all the 63 strangers who were in the theatre with me a pint if they would just come to the pub and talk to me about it.
