Hand-written playlist for a mix tape of songs by The dB’s and related musical projects, compiled circa 1989.
My love for The dB’s has been well-established on this blog—most notably here and here—so my discovery of this playlist in an old notebook was no surprise. I am, however, scratching my head at the intended audience. Because this is no simple dB’s 101 mix. In fact, it contains a lot of rarities and early material I’d taped from that massive dB’s Orgy that WHRB had broadcast in the spring of 1989. So maybe it was a single tape version of that triple-tape Orgy “best of”?
Even if it was just for myself, it was, as typical, painstakingly annotated with the relevant credits and factoids. “I Thought You Wanted To Know” was “written by Richard Lloyd,” and the three songs from Peter Holsapple’s 1978 solo 7″ were “produced by Chris Stamey.” Sometimes I wonder why I never pursued a career in copy-editing...
