Themed Prompts #3

Market:

1) "I'm off to the shops," they called to the empty house. "See you guys later."

2) "Oh, that's ugly! Where'd you find it, hideous-is-us?"

3) The stalls were covered in colours, shining knick-knacks, and all the things a person could want but would never actually need.

4) "Pick me up something fun!"

"Like what?"

"I dunno. Surprise me!"

5) "Pay up!'

"You don't get it. I can't!"

Themed Monday #11

Heat:

1) The sun blazed down on us, and sweat dripped from our brows as we trudged on, hoping we'd find some kind of shelter soon or risk baking out there on the sands.

2) "Oh god, it's too hot!"

"Stop whining, only yesterday you were moaning about how cold it was! There's just no pleasing you!"

3) My fingers fumbled, trying to turn on the tap, cursing as I felt my blistering skin slip against the cool metal faucet. As soon as the water started running I plunged my hands up to my wrists in the basin, hissing as my burns stung.

4) "Would you please go turn the radiators off? It's mid-July!"

"My house, my rules."

5) "It's gorgeous outside! Let's go for a swim!"

"No! Let's close all the curtains, watch TV, and eat an entire tub of ice cream... each!"

Themed Monday #8

Friendship:

1) "You and me," Character A began quietly, deciding not to make eye contact with Character B. "It's always been that way ever since we were kids. So... What went wrong?"

"Character A, please, I didn't mean to-" Character B replied desperately, but Character A only cut them off.

"I don't want to hear it, okay?"

2) "Hey, do you - do you wanna be friends?"

"Can I have a cookie from your lunchbox?"

"Um... Okay."

"Then yes."

3) I'd met [name] at nursery school. They used to stick crayons up their nose and sing twinkle twinkle little star to me. As kids, we'd always play together in the schoolyard; we ruled a jungle gym kingdom as king and queen, wearing crepe paper crowns. As teens, they became quiet, shy, and thoughtful, while I became loud, obnoxious, and outgoing. It didn't matter though, [name] said they didn't mind and laughed at my terrible jokes.

And now, here we are, young adults, saying goodbye, and all I want to hear coming out of their mouth is how they want to be more that the friends we've always been.

4) "I'm hosting a party, and all the most popular people are coming-"

"But you don't have any friends."

"You want to come or not?"

5) "You just gotta get out there, you know, make some friends?"

"Excuse me, do you know who I am? My favourite activity is telling people how much I dislike them!"

Themed Monday #7

Size:

1) "Ahhh, they're so tiny!"

"I'm not tiny! I'm fun sized!"

2) I'd never seen a mountain quite that size. It was so large, the top of it was hidden entirely in clouds.

3) "It's just a small detail," they said, leaning in close, placing a pen into my shaking hands. "Just a tiny, minute detail. Nothing at all to worry about."

4) "I've come into a... Sizable amount of money."

"Sizable?"

"... $500,000."

"... Oh... Wow."

5) A lump was growing fast on their forehead, deep purple in colour, as large as a plum.

Themed Monday #6

Transport:

1) "Give me a lift, will you?"

"When are you gonna learn to drive yourself?"

"Just give me a ride."

2) The train came barreling down the tracks at an unstoppable speed. All we could do was watch as it passed us by, like a rampaging dragon, leaving only destruction in its wake.

3) We grabbed our bikes and headed for the gate, looking across the fields ahead of us as if they were some strange, as-of-yet unexplored lands. ""You want to go on an adventure," my friend asked me, mischief hidden in their blue eyes.

I bit my lip hard before nodding my head. "You bet I do!"

4) "Petrol money."

"You are kidding me, right?"

"Nope. Pay up."

5) They'd never been on a private jet before; Classy was not the word for it. As they settled themselves down in a cushy seat, the owner of the jet leant across to talk to them over the low hum of the engines. "Not bad, huh? Work hard kid, and one day, this might be yours."

Themed Monday #5

Nature:

1) The trees swayed back and forth peacefully in the calm breeze. I took a deep breath, before setting off down the grassy hill. It seemed like the perfect day to just wander.

2) "Forget it," they muttered, slinging their bag over their shoulder and moving to follow their partner. "They ain't never gonna change. They've always been a grouchy idiot. It's just in their nature."

3) They watched as the fire burnt its way through the heathland, helpless to stop the hungry flames from getting its fill.

4) The sea rolled in across the beach, before tumbling back out again. In and out. In and out. Never ending. The Earth's constant breathing.

5) "Well," Character A said enthusiastically, desperate to impress. "I'm really into... Nature... And stuff..."

"Yeah?" Character B replied, finally seeming interested in the conversation. "Me too! What's your favorite species of tree?"

"Uhh..." Character A thought quickly, only drawing a blank. "You know... Tall ones..."

Themed Monday #4

Youth:

1) "These kids, they're going to be great people. They're going to do great things... I know it..."

2) They looked at me as a child looks up at the moon, eyes glazed over with curiosity and wonder.

3) "Who cares!" They slurred, slumping forward onto the desktop and reaching for the glass with a lopsided grin. "We're never gonna grow old! You and me, we gonna be young and beautiful forever!"

4) They had forgotten what it was like to be young. They had forgotten what it meant to look forward to what was coming in life.

5) "You are a child!" They yelled, gripping handfuls of their own hair. "You are just a child! You've not experienced life yet! This isn't fair on you!"

Themed Monday #3

Money:

1) "You couldn't spare me some change, could you? I need to catch the next bus and I seem to have misplaced my wallet."

2) They huffed, turning their nose up as if someone had placed something foul smelling beneath their nostrils. "You couldn't afford me anyway."

3) "What do you want? You want money? I got cash! Here, here, take it!"

4) Coins rattled enticingly in my pocket, weighing one side of my raincoat down.

5) Character A flashed a wad of cash from beneath their jacket, catching character B's eye as if with pure gold. "So," character A grinned, tucking it back within their deep pockets, "do we have a deal?"
