//Nick in A3? //
The Vaultie Selling Scrap (closed w/ theunlikelyvalentine)
“That will earn you three caps, sir!”
Carlos frowned slightly at the Mr Handy working the store. “Three? Just... just three?” he asked. “I... I had thought that this much copper in a wire would be worth more. I mean, you can make a magnet with it or do some very good repair work without trying to mold it too much...”
“Agreed, sir! But the pricing still stands, as they are my owner’s price for any form of scrap metal!”
Carlos groaned softly. But he nodded and handed off the roll of wire. It wouldn’t do much good to try to convince a Mr Handy when he had no control of the prices. He was handed the three bottlecaps in return, which Carlos put into his pocket for the time being.
“Thank you, sir!” the robot exclaimed jovially. “Thank you for your business -- I do hope you come again!”
Carlos just hummed and started to turn away.

/Nick sits in his office’s chair with Ellie standing behind him. He strikes up a match and alights his cigarette while gives the room a little more light. The smoke swirls up and get’s moved around by the fan in the room. Nick eyes his newest client and peers at them from under the brim of his worn down detective hat, golden yellow eyes making eye contact./
“So, you’re the client Ellie told me about. What’s yer case?”

Oh, that didn’t sound anything like the customer that dropped the minigun off. He turned around to look, and his milky white eyes widened slightly, either his old eyes were playing tricks on him again, or there was an old battered android in a trenchcoat standing behind him.
He assumed his eyes were playing tricks on him, he was really old, after all. Then again, he’d never seen an assaultron before either, so maybe he was seeing correctly… only one way to find out.
“Sorry boss, my eyes aren’t what they used to be, but I could swear I’m looking at a post-apocalyptic Inspector Gadget.”
“I don’t know what I would do if something happened to you.”
Nick’s confession left a deep impression on the rusting old synth, not least because he’d chosen to say it mere hours after a fairly extensive bit of maintenance work that was only prolonging the inevitable loss of yet more of his synthetic skin. DiMA couldn’t promise his brother that nothing would ever happen to him, nobody could in this world, yet he wanted to make these worries disappear forever. He didn’t want his brother to be burdened with such things.“I’m here to stay Nick, for as long as I’m able. You have my word.” He goes to his brother and pulls him into a warm hug, then grasps his shoulders and flashes him a smile when he caught his eye. “Anyway I’m a stubborn old man and I’ve been around long enough to learn a few tricks. Nothing is going to take me unawares I can promise you that.”Giving his shoulder a few solid pats he lets his brother go, intending to leave it at that but thwarted in his plan by the tendrils of worry snaking around in his gut. While pretending to be absorbed in the scrolling numbers on a nearby terminal screen, he softly adds. “The feeling is mutual though brother.”
“Monsieur Nick,” Curie hesitates a moment before continuing. “I vas wondering...does your occupation cause you to travel outside of Diamond City often? I...vas curious about the Commonwealth, but I do not think I am quite ready to travel alone.”

/Nick jumps when he feels the cool arms of his brother hug him from behind. Nick turns and hugs him back, but with worry./
“DiMA? Is something the matter? What’s wrong?” /not that it wasn’t normal for the older synth to hug his younger brother, Nick just always wants to make sure the DiMA is okay./
"Mew?" /Dame mews as she travels into DiMA's home without Nick. She paws at DiMA's feet, mewing and purring all the while/
DiMA was hooked into his chair, going over some simulations for the next round of peace talks, when something touched his foot and startled him back into reality. When he opened his eyes he was confused to find nobody looming over him, but when something soft touches his foot again he looks down to see Dame nuzzling against him, happy as can be. With no hint of her owner in sight.“Hello little miss, where’s your father?” He questioned her while he picked her up, setting her in his lap safely. Keeping half his attention on the real world he let himself slip back into the simulated one just for a moment, to check the footage from the security cameras around Acadia. Seeing no signs of Nick he began to see what had happened here, and idly stroked the kitten even while he gave her a disapproving frown. “Did you run off? You shouldn’t do that you know, the island can be very dangerous for such a tiny thing like you.”Of course the cat wouldn’t understand, but he’d always talked to animals this way. It stemmed from the years he’d spent alone with nobody for company. He stood from the chair, supporting Dame against his chest, and took her with him while he went up to the roof and started to broadcast from the radio there, hoping Nick would pick up on the signal. “Nick if you’re listening, you should know that I have your kitten with me. She’s safe, but I imagine that you’re worried about her. I’ll keep her entertained until you come to retrieve her.” He set the message to repeat and let Dame go free on the tabletop, letting her play with his fingers while he leaned tiredly on one elbow. “You came to cheer Uncle DiMA up didn’t you little one? You always know when you’re needed.” His smile was a little drawn while he tickled her behind the ears, but when he leaned down to kiss her he drew comfort from the softness of her fur against his face and sighed deeply.
