Once upon a time, I set out into the woods in secret to make a little glass shack next to a babbling brook. I called it the Crystal Cottage. That was 8 years ago. I hadn't been back there in a couple of years, but yesterday I hiked back there to visit it. It still looks gorgeous (😍) and it's in amazing shape, but needs to be finished properly. This is the cedar closet that I'm working on. The wood is all locally harvested, rough cut cedar that I got from a mill a couple of towns over. There are alternating/contrasting strips of pine in between to give it a striped look.

Getting it to this point was a bitch! I had to run each board through a planer at least 5 times to smooth it out, through a table saw 3 or 4 times to straighten them out, and then I gave them all a tongue oil finish.

It also smells really fucking delicious in there. In addition to deterring moths, the cedar will help regulate moisture. Tennessee is a really wet place, and mold can be an issue down in the hollers where we get less sunlight.

Just got through building a wall of bookshelves in the study...so much sexier.

And this is the super cute little goat barn that I built for my friend Billy. Everything was found or recycled except for the roof.
