I love Frozen as a movie as well as the dynamic between Anna and Elsa, but I absolutely despise how so many people have been hailing it as the most "groundbreaking" and "revolutionary" movie in all of Disney's catalog because the main focus wasn't on "getting a prince". The movie did not revolutionize anything, not even in the fairytale genre.
#disney#frozen#newsflash! disney has done fairytales where the protag did not end up in a relationship#also a great part of anna's arc relied ON romance#which is why they constantly put her down compared to elsa#but elsa was not an empowered woman. she was a fucking mess. she NEEDED support#and yes it came in the form of her sister was new in a disney movie at the time#but it was damn sure not groundbreaking. disney has historically focused on family more than it has on romance#also most disney princess did not actually marry princes lmao jasmine was the first one to dismiss that rule#she married a poor boy who relied on his street smarts and not a prince because she saw value in him#that was literally the point of his arc#so many disney heroines have married men who were not princes so how the fuck was frozen revolutionary????#it has been a popular trope since the 90s for the wealthy woman to go for the poor boy#so as to prove that a man does not need to have possessions to gain the love of a woman#this is in fact one of the oldest tropes in the fucking world. the woman who had to marry a wealthy man but chose to love the man who had#nothing. she chose the “rogue” over the prince. she chose not to marry for convenience#this has been a thing for centuries!!!! frozen did not break any damn ground by having anna go for the rogue#“it's not about that it's about how the ultimate gratification came from sisterly love and not romance” newsflash other disney movies did#this as well#also frozen ii ended up fucking the message of the original over#by making elsa an independent strong woman who does not need anna at all#so at the end of the day the sisterly focus was fucked over for the sake of elsa#elsa's independence. anna being a woman did not matter but it's just viewed that any female character who has any type of support#be it romantic or familial is fucking evil and burdensome so anna was pushed to the side for elsa at the end of the goddamn day#and you can tell it was the same goddamn feminists who praised this movie so much because “no prince was the goal” who wrote that bs
