Following my previous hc: Jack didn’t lose his leg during an overseas deployment, but rather in a car accident during a harsh winter, in which he also lost his high school sweetheart, soul mate, and wife.

Both Jack and his wife were rushed to PTMC. Robby, working a swing shift, suddenly found himself responsible for saving them. The two people he loved most in this world.

Jack’s wife’s injuries were far too severe, but they still tried, and Jack’s in no condition to make any decisions. Robby, whom Jack’s wife had all but adopted as an inseparable member of their little family, was not only a close friend to the couple but also Jack’s emergency contact besides his wife. Everyone knew what had to be done, but they all waited for Robby to make the call.

How could he? Jack had just lost his wife without even a chance to say goodbye, how could Robby decide to take his leg too?

In the end, it was Walsh who stepped forward, willing to be the “bad guy.” She “forced” Robby to give consent for the amputation.

Nightmares - Dan Heng x gn!reader

You turned on your phone, glancing at the time. it was 2am sharp. You fell back onto your bed with a sigh; you knew youd be unable to fall back asleep after that. Your hands still shook slightly, your heartbeat ringing in your ears, the remnants of your nightmare still lingering. You usually come down pretty quickly, force of habit, but this one was particularly nasty.

You pondered your options for a while; you were supposed to head out to Herta's space station the following morning, which meant if you managed to fall back asleep you could get around 6 hours of rest at most, which didn't seem so bad, if you did manage to fall back asleep right away (unlikely). So there were your two options; mope all alone in your bed and wait for sleep to come back, or head down to the lounge aera to take your mind off of things and make yourself some tea, but then get less sleep. You stared at the ceiling for a few seconds, letting your breathing slow down and your hands still, until you decided to go for the latter.

You soon found yourself sitting on one of the express's orange couches, freshly brewed and still hot cup of your favorite tea in your hand, and some left in the kettle. you stare at the starry sky out the window, unchanging no matter the time of the day. the stars in the sky always remain, no matter how much time passes.

Its not the first time you've gotten nightmares like this, and you know you're not the only passenger who deals with them either. Many times during your little post-nightmare expeditions to the express parlor you’ve ran into Dan Heng. Whenever you do, you both usually just sit in silence, looking at the stars, occasionally interrupted by one brushing their hand through the others hair or a hummed tune from your homelands on really bad nights.

You hadn’t beed sitting there for long when he came in quietly, mug already in hand as if he knew you’d be there. He sat down next to you, as you stared at him still surprised. He was wearing a jade green shirt, slightly loose around the collar from time’s wear and tear, and grey sweatpants. no matter how many times you saw him in his lounge wear you could never get used to this relaxed version of him. He took a long sip from his mug, unhurried, while your eyes followed his movements. He put it back down, before finally turning to you to speak. “Bad one tonight ?”

“How did you know?”

“Heard you get up. And also you were talking in your sleep” you sigh, slightly embarrassed at the fact you hadn’t even realized you were making a ruckus, and also that you woke him up at such a late hour. “Guess the walls of the archives aren’t that soundproof huh?” He let out an empathetic huff, before slowly, hesitantly, opened his arms, beckoning you to move closer. You scooted over from where you sat on the couch, nuzzling your head against his neck, seeking comfort. He wrapped his arms around your shoulders in return, albeit slowly and awkwardly. Dan Heng was always unusually cold, probably due to him being a Vidyhadra, but tonight your didn't mind. Your hands were still sweaty and shaky from the nightmare, and his cold skin against yours was quick to ground you. You wrap your own arms around his torso, giving him a small, thankful squeeze. Soon enough you find yourself sighing in contentement, almost ready to fall asleep like this, but quickly coming back to your senses and telling him off for being awake. He’s quick to shush you, muttering something about sending Caelus to run your errands instead of you, awkwardly carding his fingers through your hair ro lull you back to sleep. You laugh at the gesture, so sweet coming from him despite his clumsiness, your own hands tracing patterns along the middle of his back through his shirt.

You wake up hours later in your own bed, firmly tucked in and a cup of tea sitting on your nightstand and someone sitting up against the foot of your bed, fingers intertwined with yours.

THE VOLTRON PALADIN'S BEDROOMS

So many Voltron fanart and fanfiction out there depict how intricately decorated and well furnished each of the paladin's bedrooms are. They serve as further extensions of their personalities. Out of curiousity, I felt like taking a look at what the show actually gave us for comparison.

Here's what we see throughout the series of Team Voltron's bedrooms aboard the Castle of Lions:

ALLURA

Not sure what that shimmery water-like semicircle thing by her room's entryway is supposed to be. Doubt it's a curtain given the ones by Allura's bed look like...well...normal curtains. Allura's bed also kinda looks like a dentist's chair...

A little odd to have that much space but only two furniture items and no decor. It's so empty-looking compared to what I'd imagine the princess of an entire planet's room to look like. Maybe it's an Altean aesthetic thing...like some kind of Space Japandi.

SHIRO

Pretty spartan, but the Shiro's is only paladin bedroom to feature mood lighting!

Just kidding, that's what the rooms look like with the lights off. Boo.

HUNK

This is the only glimpse we ever get of Hunk's room. Pretty standard room setup. I'll give him a pass for having no decor because he's only been with Voltron for one day at this point.

PIDGE

Pidge's bedroom is the only paladin bedroom with any actual decor and personality. She really was the favorite!

KEITH

We spend the most time in Keith's bedroom throughout the series than any other Paladin's.

SEASON 1

Keeeeeith!! Ew, no! What are you doing wearing your shoes in bed?! No! Bad Keith!

By the small shadow being cast, there appears to be a small alcove just to the left of the entry door.

...How exactly is Keith hanging his jacket up on the wall?

SEASON 2

Hmmm, I'm kinda confused by this scene. Keith has two doors leading into his bedroom? Or is the door to Keith's left the first evidence we've seen of an en suite bathroom? The things an obsessed VLD fan is left to wonder about...

As a quick aside...Keith, where the hell are your bedsheets?!

SEASON 3

In what is colloquially known as 'The Bedroom Scene' (heh), the second 'mystery' door in Keith's room is no longer there.

Did Keith perhaps switch rooms during season 2? Could he not handle being so close to Lance?!

By season 3, seems like Keith's moved back to his original room (soooo...he's finally ready and willing to be close to Lance! Aww!).

Most likely the second door in the S2 bedroom was just an animation inconsistency, but I prefer to speculate wildly.

Speaking of Lance, there's also this glowy alcove with what looks like storage space behind him here. Perhaps intended as a place to display prized space tchotchkes? Keith, you need to step up your hoarding game!!!

LANCE

Don't know why, but I'm bewildered by how little of Lance's bedroom we see during the series. Lance always seemed like he was built up to be the main character/audience surrogate, so it's kind of surprising we don't see much of his personal space.

Peeking behind Lance here, we see his room is the only one that has those black stripey things on his wall right next to the entry door. Keith has them as well, but they're smack dab in the middle of his room.

Really had to squint here to make out that this is actually Lance's bedroom. On previous viewings, I thought Lance was just playing in some communal space. It's much more depressing that Lance brought in the whole gaming apparatus to his own room. Further evidence of Lance isolating himself from his teammates throughout s4.

Anyway, clearly the fanon depictions of the Paladin's bedrooms are so much more creative and fun. Pinned photos on their walls of Earth, scenery from the planets they visit, the aliens they meet, and of each other, of course! Collections of trinkets on display from various places they go, strings of fairy lights along the walls, actual storage space, closets, and furniture! Oh, and en suite BATHROOMS! With SHOWERS! Someplace fitting for Lance's beauty regimen supplies.
