But a daemon!verse f1 au where touching each others daemons is seen as a taboo, even daemons touching each other is looked down upon, and the whole grid is shocked when pierre and Charles both make it to f1 and completely disregard those rules with each other. Like in 2019 during pierres redbull stint it's not unusual to see Charles daemon basically glued to pierres side etc.

And everyone else is like what the fuck? but pierre and Charles don't understand why because obviously they trust each other with the physical manifestation of their soul as if it's no big deal, that's how it's always been between them

maybe this is problematic and this is really out of nowhere but I'm thinking about how so much of fandom is a) female and b) somewhere under the lgbt+ umbrella and it's interesting to think about it bc I think there's a lot that's been written about fetishization of m/m relationships within fandom especially by women, particularly straight women and on the one hand it's definitely a problem and a valid complaint but on the other hand. There are a lot of gay women in fandom and I know a lot of girls (nb people and nb wlw as well) who are gay who really came to terms with it through, of all things, male slash. I can't speak for everyone but I do think this has to do with the fact that a lot of working through internalized lesbophobia stems not necessarily from internalized homophobia but internalized misogyny instead, and focusing on m/m relationships provides wlw with a chance to connect and identify with romance/sexuality in a way that feels relatable without having to confront the issue if internalized misogyny, lesbophobia, and gender roles. (tbf, I think straight women who engage in m/m shipping/fandom often do so to avoid confronting power imbalances in heterosexual gender dynamics & internalized misogyny too but that's probably a different post). I think this is especially unsurprising when you consider that (up until recently) most nuanced and sympathetic portrayals of gay people and gay couples in media were predominantly gay men.... women struggle to find relatable figures in media already, and it's especially hard for wlw (ESPECIALLY before they've come to recognize it).

I think this can be really confusing in many ways for young wlw bc it can nurture a very strange, ironic form of comphet and create confusion surrounding attraction and identity and I think it's because certain prejudices have been worked through, but others (lesbophobia and misogyny) have not -- and many don't even realize it, and might mistake what is really a search for identity and solidarity and freedom from societal gender roles as, like, attraction toward men.

I really don't know where I'm going with this, other than a rambling consideration of my own journey with identity over the past few years, and how it has been both warped and enriched by my own interactions with fandom and media, as well as experiences I've heard from other lesbians and wlw. Obviously I think fetishization is a problem, but it's interesting how what we perceive as at least a fixation on m/m relationships as fandom can potentially boil down to a kind of like.... form of escapism and exploration for girls in fandom, especially wlw.
