But seriously,, please don't ever tell people regardless of their socio economics status not to shop at thrift stores bc ,,,,, it's really important they do I have volunteered at many thrift stores and one thing they all have in common is they need wealthy people to come in and buy things The clothes which you see in a thrift store are INTENDED to be bought by privileged people. The money from these sales goes into DIRECTLY AIDING THE HOMELESS!!!!! For example, where I currently work they use the money to buy essential food items for homeless people as well as pay for their scripts. Also, that cash goes into paying bills !!! Like water, rent, electricity. So the thrift shop can continue to provide services The idea that shopping at a thrift store is taking away from people who need the real help is wrong. The thing about thrift shops is there's always too much ,,, I live in a rural small town and still the amount of donations we received far exceeded anything we could sell/donate ect. The more of this excess stock we could sell the better. Aside from that shopping at thrift stores is ethical, and means you won't be consuming from brands which may be unethical - whether they own sweatshops, kill animals or use underpaid labour. Shopping thrift DIRECTLY aids people who may be being exploited in third world countries So STOP discouraging people shopping at thrift stores. Don't laugh at them for being Extra ... they're extra is actually making a meaningful contribution even if it's unintentional (the owner at my store always talks about how glad she is thrift shopping has become trendy bc selling is easier) And don't tell people that bc they are well of thrift shops are not for them because that's just ignorant and undermines how the system works HELP PEOPLE ABD SHOP AT YOIR LOCAL THRIFT STORE And better yet volunteer your time bc they always need that too
