so ive been thinking about Hamlet - as per usual and always - and listening to this song. what if in an adaptation of the play, at the end, when Hamlet is in Horatio's arms and has shoved the poisoned cup away ("Absent thee from felicity a while"), he softly sings this song. there's blood in his mouth and he's heaving and some bits he just whispers, but he tells Horatio, "There are things that need to be done. In your dreams I'll come along." - "When I go, please, stay, stay, wait." And he tells Horatio, "There is power found in this song," i.e. tell my story and all that came of it. And the last "Hear me..." is so soft that the audience bearly grasps it, but Horatio does and then Hamlet dies and Horatio starts sobbing and clutches his most beloved tightly -- "Now cracks a noble heart..."
He's left alone, on a stage riddled with corpses and blood and he only wants to follow Hamlet, but there's the ringing, the whispering in his ear: "Stay... Wait......."

'#AND EXACTLY W CORDELIA AND EDMUND LIKE! THEYRE PASSING BY EACH OTHER BUT THEY MISS!#THEY COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN ALLIES BUT THEY MISS! BECAUSE OF CIRCUMSTANCE!' ugh okay i know i said that first about just missing each other, but then you added in that it's *because of circumstance* and i just. they've both been fighting so hard AGAINST their unfair circumstances but can't do it here. (thinking also about how regan and goneril stand together against lear but tear each other apart over edmund)
I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory. Is this where it gets me, on my feet, sev'ral feet ahead of me? I see it coming, do I run or fire my gun or let it be? There is no beat, no melody. Burr, my first friend, my enemy, maybe the last face I ever see, if I throw away my shot, is this how you'll remember me? What if this bullet is my legacy? Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see. I wrote some notes at the beginning of a song someone will sing for me, America you great unfinished symphony, you sent for me. You let me make a difference, a place where even orphan immigrants can leave their fingerprints and rise up. I’m running out of time, I’m running, and my time’s up, wise up—eyes up.
I was not prepared
