Sry to all the 'Spike is a dog'-truthers, I see you, I hear you and I disagree.

Have we forgotten the ancient texts? Spike making biscuits while Buffy feeds him in Giles' bathtub, Spike pushing a beaker off the counter just to watch it smash to the ground. Also his early s5 arc, once he's finally aware of his feelings for Buffy but doesn't know how to approach her, is just him continuously bringing her dead mice and wondering why she doesn't appreciate them. And Buffy just seems like someone who thinks of herself as a dog-person but accidentally starts feeding the stray cats in her neighborhood so they all flock to her (the stray cats being Spike and Faith obviously).

Buffy goads Kendra into getting angry (in What's my line part 2) in the same way Spike provokes Angel (in Fool for love). Both of them are trying to prove the point that it's better and more enjoyable to fight while unleashing emotionally.

Something something Faith and spike’s hedonism and radical self acceptance being expressed through indulgence in food. While Buffy and Angel, who are both very self-denying and fight/ reject their respective identities (as a slayer/vampire), only consume food for sustenance, never enjoyment.

Curious how there was only one prophecy about our prophecy girl, buffy summers. Turns out the real prophecy girl was Angel all along.

The conversation between Joyce and Buffy in the episode Passion is really hard to watch with modern eyes.

Instead of focusing on the fact that Buffy is clearly being stalked and was potentially groomed, she is solely preoccupied with her daughter "showing poor judgment", by having sex with someone "unstable". Rather than shaming her, she should be trying to get her daughter a restraining order (and some therapy).

It's also frustrating that they keep calling attention to the age-gap between Buffy and Angel ("he is older than you, too old") but never actually taking the idea to it's logical conclusion. If they wanted to give the age-gap actual gravity in the story, then Buffy was clearly manipulated by an older man and could not actually consent to sex with Angel (age of consent in California was 18 in 1998). Either don't mention it or follow through on it.

I’ve always thought of the spell the monks used to create dawn (out of the key) as a spell that literally inserted her into the timeline, from birth (since the key exists beyond space and time). Not just a memory spell, even if the show mostly frames it around the idea that the characters memories have been altered.

But that doesn’t seem to be the dominant theory in the fandom, since I often come across people wondering whether a certain character also has memories of Dawn or if the monks themselves came up with all of her quirks.

I don’t think the monks designed dawn’s life or personality, I think they just turned the key human (presumably somehow using buffy as a template) and inserted her into buffy’s life and everything else developed naturally as a result of “growing up with buffy”.

Like I hear/read sometimes that people wonder if Angel has memories of dawn (not in small part because he literally never barely acknowledges her existence…) or some people are surprised that Faith remembers dawn in s7 and I just think it would be sort of a useless spell if that wasn’t the case. And while it’s funny to imagine that the monks just sat around discussing how to convincingly create a teenage girl, e.g. that she would love anchovies on pizza or what posters she would hang in her room, it just feels kinda far-fetched (even if it is a supernatural show).
