SHE WAS PROBABLY OVERTHINKING. it was nothing new ⏤ lexi had been questioning everything she ever said or did for as long as she could remember. sleepless nights alone in bed had always been plagued by memories of what only she was convinced were moments of utter humiliation. they were no doubt used to it by now, too. it was their first moment alone since they had arrived the day before and lexi could feel them watching her, like they could hear what she was thinking. and while she knew it wasn't their intention, she couldn't help but feel worse. her mood and racing mind were ruining their impromptu picnic. "if i ask you something, will you be honest with me?" because they might as well just get it out of the way.

it was a fairly slow day at the bar. which wasn’t unusual, really, especially in a small town like this one. the usuals generally started to trickle in around 5:30 - after they’d gotten off work - and they were always happy to see her. the last thing she was expecting was for the front door to burst open. she jumped, looking up from her book with wide eyes at the young man standing in the doorway. “uh. hi. can i help you?”

SHE STILL FEELS LIKE SHE'S IN A FOG. like nothing is real, somewhere between awake and a dream. she spent most of the morning being poked and prodded for the millionth time while they all spoke in hushed tones, everyone dancing around an uncomfortable truth. they sent someone into the room who gave her some pamphlets and assured her that she would remember ⏤ in pieces, in time, when she's ready. told her not to push it, not to be too hard on herself. but how could she not be? how could she sit in the car with them and drive down streets that don't feel familiar and feel okay with any of this? and she doesn't want to know how they feel about it all. if they're upset with her for not being able to remember anything about them. they walk into an apartment they tell her is hers, but it feels just as unfamiliar as everything else. but the first thing she does is shower and raid the closet and change into clothes that must be her own. when she walks out into the kitchen and sees they're still there, lexi doesn't really know what to do. "you don't have to stay," she says quietly, "i'll be okay, i'll just get some sleep."

HER JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY HAD BEEN NOTHING BUT DISASTROUS. not only had she gotten more than a little lost, the sky had decided to open up and unleash the ungodliest amount of rain that made it impossible to see more than a foot or two in front of her. lexi hydroplaned as she tried to guide her car into the first parking lot she found. the motel's sign was barely visible in the sheets of rain but it felt like the first moment of decent luck she's had since the trip had started. grabbing nothing but her backpack, lexi booked it through the lot toward the lobby and any excitement she'd had just moments ago faded away. nothing about the place looked promising, and the on break, back in at 1:30 sign on the counter did little to inspire any confidence. lexi hit the bell and waited a few minutes before collapsing into one of the chairs covered in cracked vinyl that made a wholly unpleasant sound. she's searching for an outlet to plug in her phone when the bell chimes. it's not who she's hoping to see, but there's some relief in knowing she's not the only one having a terrible night. "don't even bother with the bell," she mutters, giving up on her search.

LEXI UNDERSTOOD WHAT MARGO WAS SAYING ABOUT HER FAMILY but that didn't do much to ease lexi's nerves. "so they're never going to be like, fully okay with us," her speech slowed as the sentence progressed, trying to process the situation. and honestly she wasn't sure if knowing they would never completely be fine with their relationship helped her nerves or just made it worse. still, lexi tried to compartmentalize all of it, since margo was clearly not okay. "doesn't seem like nothing," she tried not to push too hard, but she didn't want to completely dismiss her girlfriend's feelings either, "that can wait, baby. what's going on?"

THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAD BEEN SURREAL. never in her life had lexi ever imagined being on a movie set. but she had also never imagined that anyone would want to feature her art in a movie. the set felt surprisingly fun and laid back, though she attributed that to the film in question being through more of an indie studio than anything. that, and the director and producer had extended the invitation for her to stick around and spend the day on set after she had finished installing her art. lexi had made it a goal to be as unobtrusive as possible, a passive observer, but they had been talking between takes and on breaks ⏤ evolving in a way where it now felt more like flirting than friendly conversation. but lexi knew that at the end of the day, she was walking off set and likely would not be returning, and she would never see them again. filming had wrapped for the day, and lexi found herself getting some fresh air with them outside, picking at some of the leftover sandwiches and snacks that had been put out around lunchtime. "today was a lot of fun," it felt a little bittersweet, bordering on a goodbye when it was the last thing she wanted to do.

SHE HAD BEEN PACING ALL NIGHT. so much so that she was surprised her downstairs neighbors hadn't been pounding at the door begging her to quit it. but she couldn't help it. lexi had always been an overthinker, had a tendency to get in her own head and let her worries snowball into something beyond overwhelming ⏤ but she didn't think she was overreacting about this. when the door finally opened, they were barely through the door when she was starting in, "when were you going to tell me the truth?"

Minette was doing a whole lot better at remembering things. She had been working so hard to try and remember. They'd taken off to explore a bit, address in their GPS just in case. She stopped when she saw that something had fallen. She bent down to pick it up and stood up, realizing now they were a little lost. They turn to the nearest person. "Excuse me, is this yours?"
