How Taeng managed to present sane enough to land a second date with Piper, well, that was between MeMe and god. (Maybe it was just because she was sexy. There was no denying that.) However it happened, tonight was Pangea’s second date, an event Taeng had worked up dreamily in her mind, an event of first kisses and more kisses, an event of sweet nothings and sweet laughter.
Instead, however, Taeng’s eyes had been glued to the ticking hand of her watch, her anguish growing with literally each passing second. Three minutes felt like a long time when you were counting each moment. When she finally spotted Piper, the tension in her features should have smoothed into a smile, but the line of her jaw remained hard, and hurt reflected dark in her eyes.
“Is this a joke to you?” Taeng asked. Her voice was a low, conspiratorial whisper. It would be a miracle if Piper even heard her in the crowded bar.
