"Sanbiki Saru" 三匹の猿 : Three Wise Monkeys “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil"
Mizaru 見猿 covering his eyes
Kikazaru 聞か猿 covering his ears
Iwazaru 言わ猿 covering his mouth
In space, no one can hear, see or talk to you
And it was at this moment that they realized a certain town in danger is in need of help.
SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL + ASTROLOGY:
There is an ancient symbol that lingers at the edges of human consciousness, three monkeys, each representing a gesture of refusal. Onwe covers its eyes, another its mouth, the last its ears. “See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil,” they say.
At first glance, it may appear a simple morality tale: an instruction to remain pure, untouched by the wickedness of the world. But deeper contemplation reveals a labyrinth of meanings, and in each meaning, a mirror to the soul. Especially the darkness of the soul.
To see no evil is not to deny the existence of evil, but to recognize the subtle tyranny of perception. The eyes are doors through which the outer world floods in, often uninvited. To close them against evil is to acknowledge that perception itself can wound us, that to allow the image of cruelty to remain in the mind is to give it life newly within. Yet, is blindness a hidden moral compass, or is it ignorance? In refusing to see, do we preserve innocence or betray reality?
To speak no evil is to understand the terrible power of language. Speech is the most direct bridge between inner thought and outer consequence. Words are seeds: once spoken, they fall into the soil of other minds, where they may blossom into hatred, love, fear, or hope. To guard the mouth is to achieve a profound form of discipline, to recognize that a careless word can be a kind of violence. And yet, silence too can be a form of cruelty. In not naming evil, do we become an ally of it? Is speech a sword to be drawn carefully or a flame to be hidden under fear?
To hear no evil is perhaps the most mysterious of the three. The ears, unlike the eyes, cannot close themselves. Sound infiltrates even the most resistant soul. To refuse to hear evil is thus an act of internal fortitude, a rejection not of sound itself, but of allowing its poison to take root. But again, we must ask: is refusal to hear a path to peace, or a retreat from the duty of bearing witness?
In the end, perhaps the truest teaching is this: Evil exists not merely outside of us, but within. The covering hands of the monkeys are a reminder that the first evil to confront is the one born in our own perceptions, our own words, our own listening. The work is not to erase evil from the world, but to refuse to let it be mirrored in our own being.
What we might learn from this: Everything is true but nothing is true. As Meurcault by Albert Camus from The Stranger believes.
In what placements we see these archetypes:
SEE NO EVIL
or 12th House placements/ Pisces placements/ Moon + Venus Dominants
• Neptune governs spiritual vision, compassion, and illusion—choosing to “see” with the soul, not just the eyes.
• 12th House is the realm of hidden truths and the unconscious; avoiding evil through spiritual detachment.
• Also relates to Venus in Libra: choosing to see beauty, not ugliness or conflict.
• Moon in Pisces – highly empathic, may emotionally “tune out” harsh visuals or disturbing realities.
• Could be seen in Venus in Sagittarius – chooses to focus on the bigger picture, beauty, and philosophy over drama and detail.
• Ascendant in Cancer or Pisces – sensitive to energy; filters external visuals to protect emotional well-being.
•Sun in 12th House - Identity partially hidden or inward-facing. May avoid confronting external ego conflicts—sees through intuition instead of confrotation
• South Node in Libra/ North Node in Aries - Has a karmic pattern of avoiding conflict or seeing only the “nice” side of things. Soul evolution comes through seeing harsh truth with courage.
HEAR NO EVIL:
Mercury and Moon relevancy + 3rd House
• Mercury in Taurus – listens slowly and selectively; dislikes mental clutter or drama.
• Mercury in Scorpio - Hears everything, including subtext, lies, or manipulation. Chooses silence unless truth must be revealed. Rejects superficial or noisy input.
• Mercury in Pisces/Cancer (Very evident)
• Mercury retrograde (in any sign) - Naturally inward-facing thinker. Processes speech internally first, often skeptical of outer input. Tends to mistrust surface noise.
• Moon in Libra - Needs harmony in relationships. May ignore conflict or negativity to keep peace; dislikes loud or offensive speech.
• Moon in Aquarius - Detaches from emotional noise. Can observe drama without internalizing it. Hears with logic more than feeling.
• Chiron in Gemini or 3rd House - Deep wound around speech and hearing—may come from childhood ridicule, harsh words, or chaotic environments. Healing comes through mindful listening and silence.
• South Node in Leo/ North Node in Aquarius - Soul path involves detaching from ego-driven noise and moving toward collective insight. Learns to filter personal drama out.
SPEAK NO EVIL:
Mainly Saturn/Mercury + Silence is Power and Pluto Influences
• Mercury in Virgo - Speaks precisely and purposefully. Avoids exaggeration, slander, or emotional drama. Can be critical, but often internally. May over-edit speech.
• Mercury in Scorpio - Holds secrets. Speech is powerful, controlled, and often laced with deeper insight. Won’t speak unless it’s meaningful—or piercing.
• Mercury in Capricorn - Deliberate, serious communicator. Avoids frivolous speech. Speaks when necessary, usually to add value, structure, or truth.
• Mercury Conjuct Saturn - Speech is cautious, filtered, and often burdened with self-monitoring. Tendency to be quiet, thoughtful, or struggle to express freely—may “err on the side of silence.”
• Mercury Square Saturn - Feels responsibility around words. May have learned hard lessons through speech (guilt, backlash, miscommunication). Leads to cautious speech patterns.
• Saturn in 3rd House - Structured, sometimes sparse communication. Learns lessons around restraint in speech, or may experience karmic restrictions in early life communication.
• Mercury in 12th House - Inner dialogue is rich, but speech may be hidden, poetic, or secretive. Communicates from behind a veil; avoids directness.
• Moon in Scorpio/12th House - Keeps feelings under lock and key. Emotionally silent when hurt. Speech emerges only when trust is deep.
• South Node in Gemini/North Node in Sagittarius - Past life tendency to overtalk, gossip, or scatter information. Evolution involves learning to speak with higher purpose—or to embrace silence and spiritual speech.
• Pluto in 3rd House - Speaks very little—or very powerfully. Can be a word alchemist. Uses silence or speech to influence others deeply.
