Thrushes are one of my favorites, the "Drossel" part in my alias is the German word for thrush too 🙂 They are just so entertaining and expressive. And they have been very cooperative today. The Swainson's was back in the morning, and then a whole flock of Robins visited. A good Sunday.
Another Daglish Feathursday
Here are some more wood-engraved renderings of birds by British author and wood engraver Eric Fitch Daglish (1892-1966) from his book Birds of the British Isles, published in London by J. M. Dent & Sons in 1948 in a limited edition of 1500 copies, with 23 black and white and 25 hand-colored wood engravings by Daglish. Want to know more about these feathery fellows? Here you go:
European Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis)
Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
Common Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus)
Mistle Thrush (Turdus viscivorus)
Woodchat Shrike (Lanius senator)
Northern Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes)
Our copy is a donation from our friend, Wisconsin wood engraver Tony Drehfal.

The quiet writhing of black earth beneath winter’s soundless embrace // Part 3
A lovely garden visitor, the varied thrush takes an iconic bird silhouette and says 'what if there was more ORANGE?' and that's the kind if twist on a classic I'm here for, nature! This one is pecking around under some bracken, a common sight in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. In my shop now!
