     it’s an uncharacteristically considerate gesture that gives her pause, gaze flickering uncertainly up to a face that seems intent on not giving the game away. the palm of his hand burns against hers, fingers laced in what seems to be an attempt at reassurance but that only succeeds partway. perhaps it is unkind to question his motives or perhaps in doing so she manages to retain even just a shred of good sense  –––  presently, it is unclear which. doubt reigns supreme though an incessant need for reassurance will take whatever it can get in terms of progress and as far as sebastian is concerned this simple gesture has carried them leaps and bounds, lending optimism to a heart intent on finding love wherever it can.

     for the moment, she holds his hand a little tighter and tucks herself against his side and  ( unsuccessfully )  wills away any question of his intentions.

     “ excuse me. ”  their positioning has allowed her the rare treat of holding the high ground and daisy resolves not to waste it nor relinquish it without something of a fight. she has wedged a knee between his thighs and coaxed them apart, met that entitled twinkle in his eye not with the weight of her slight form settling in his lap but with a steady invasion of whatever personal space he might have carved out for himself in that armchair. stood resolutely between spread thighs, gentle hands grip at the arms of his seat as daisy bends low and draws so devastatingly close that their noses brush  –––––  he dips forward to claim a kiss that is not his to take tonight and she withdraws without delay, head turned to catch his affection  ( affection? power play? )  with the hollow of a roseate cheek. there is a reprimand in her eyes as she turns her gaze back on him and draws forward once more.  “ apologise first. ”

She catches it there; a flicker of a moment, and swears that lips pinch and features soften just that little bit. Surprise, and a tease she knows sits and waits against his tongue like a predator that watches it’s prey. She sits, silent, for only two seconds before a look. “ Oh, shut up. ”
