Talk about period instrumentals. Herb Alpert based his then-new record label on the concept of a two-minute pop tune inspired by a visit to a bull fight. We like this one, as it's one of the shorter ones (91 seconds!) from an era when the pop tune was still under three minutes.

When I want a sixties music fix I’ll go into my vinyl collection and pull out one ( I have 12 of their albums) of Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass albums. A talented musician and a dynamo businessman (co-founded A&M Records, sold it for 700 million$) Alpert’s so so suave blend of jazz, pop and Latin music was ubiquitous in the sixties . Hit after hit after hit..

I know I’ve posted this before but it remains one of my favorite mashups. It was never officially released but it was the kind of track that you’d get on a mixtape and then turn around and add it to a bunch of other mixtapes like a chain letter. All the coolest musicheads had heard it and if they hadn’t and you got to be the one to play it for them the first time you felt like you had saved someone’s soul
