I have a question for Caius, some seem surprised to learn you have a mate. I was wondering how you two lovebirds hit it off exactly? Like what about Athenodora made you think ‘yep she’s a keeper’?
People need to understand that I do not hate people without reason. The problem is almost everyone is a sniveling imbecile. I truly enjoy my brothers and our guard, because they deserve that. Almost everyone else does not.
When it comes to Athenodora, I see her. I truly see her. She is more lovely than any other creature, not only in mind but also in spirit. She possesses every trait I have ever admired and more. I would refrain from being . . . callous, if everyone were like my love. Alas, people are insufferable and can not handle keeping a few simple laws. I hope this answers your question, but also I could not care any less.
I agree Asami is bad at reading ppl, where Feilong is a bit better at doing so than him I feel. No wonder he is playing marriage counselor lol.
I absolutely love Fei as an Asami/Aki shipper. Especially considering he’s still carrying a wildly flaming torch for Asami. It’s pretty impressive that Fei’s heart can extend to helping out Aki. I really think what he was doing in that scene in the hideout where he was quizzing Asami was trying to figure out if Asami really and truly cared about Aki, if he really had abandoned Aki for good, if there was any hope at all that he--Fei--could find his way into Asami’s heart. And when he realized he couldn’t--because as you say, he was able to read Asami better than Asami reads himself--he retreated with as much honor as anyone in this story and not only ceded the field to Aki but handed Asami over to him.
Lol I remember in the Finder Character Interviews Feilong said something about how he likes people who derive from his idea of common sense. No no wait or he wouldn't answer because the question was hypothetical and littke Tao got a bit upset. No doubt Tao doesn't want to share Fei.
Oh poor Tao. I agree I feel Feilong is so ill suited for the position of a Dragon Head, easily moved by his emotions which I feel he doesn’t fully understand at times.
Hah, good thing you pointed that out. Good timing too, since the story seems to be giving Fei Long and Tao much more room than sensei originally expected to give them.
If you think about the world Fei Long lives in, it’s not hard to understand why he was so fascinated by Asami when the two of them met. (I will get to Tao in a minute).
This will be a long post, by the way. I will hide it under a cut not to clutter anyone’s dashboard.
Triads are all about family and blood ties, about strict rules, about respecting hierarchy and basically killing your own personal aspirations to serve the organization. Some of the illegal affairs they deal with are very similar to the ones handled by the Japanese yakuza (as well as their constant meddling with political affairs, even though in Japan that aspect is clearly much stronger and better documented), but what constitutes “family” differs an enormous amount between those two organizations.
So, this is the first point. Not only was Fei Long raised to serve the triad, but he was also raised to believe he was inferior to his brother Yan, and therefore unfit to be a successor - which, as you pointed out, might be just the case, but not because he was incompetent, far from it; more because of the fact he has a gentle, intellectual and emotional nature. That is what makes him unfit.
And then, out of nowhere, in comes Asami. What people sometimes overlook (especially those that like to entertain the idea that Asami did what he did in Flower in the High Loft out of love/attarction/any noble sentiment) is that Asami was in Hong Kong with an agenda of his own. He needed to convince Fei Long to take over the Baishe because business-wise, Yan was not an option. And to do that, he pushed all the right buttons: fully aware of Fei Long’s desperate need for reassurance and validation (a.k.a daddy issues), he was the daddy. He praised, he comforted, he encouraged, he protected. And as a (direct and indirect) result of Asami’s shenanigans. Fei Long began to tread the path Asami wanted him to.
From Fei Long’s perspective: how could he not fall in love with that man? If anything, Asami is the opposite of common sense. He defies all rules that have always applied to Fei Long. For one, Asami answers to no one. He is no yakuza, he serves no one but himself. He is not bound by family ties, he is in charge of his own fate - something Fei Long has never been. Even now that he leads the Baishe, even that was the result of years of manipulation and other people’s decisions.
So, in a way, Asami is not just an object of affection. He represents everything Fei Long wishes he could have, but that he is fated not to.
Tao, on the other hand, is a comforting reminder that not everything in Fei Long’s life is darkness and loneliness. What happens when Tao begins to work for the triad’s interests, though, is yet to be seen. This loving relationship between Fei and Tao is one that I cannot see as romantic, and that doesn’t need to be, actually. Kids are often jealous of their parents (and I would rather leave the Freudian reasons out of the post, it is already far too long). It is okay that Tao dislikes the idea of sharing, in FnR he is extremely jealous of Yoh. The idea of “losing” Fei Long’s affection the moment Fei settles down with someone is something I hope he will soon grow out of.
There is much that the Head of the Baishe will never be able to have, but that doesn’t mean his bed and heart will have to be empty forever. Surely little Tao can cut Feilong-sama some slack when it comes to a new love!
Wow thank so mucb for the responses! Gave me a lot to think about such as how Feilong not wanting to be saved from his life that he was born and raised for. And whether or not he is destined to have that special somone. Like it makes me think how near impossible it would be to find someone on that side. I mean the guy doesn't even have a best bud, all he has is sweet little Tao. I am kind of rooting for Yoh but... it is up to Sensei to decide if he is meant to have that.
Hi there, and sorry again for the delay. Haven’t had much luck with my devices as of lately, so here’s to hoping this ask won’t get swallowed by weird glitches or, as Tumblr likes to say, a “bungled connection”.
Funny that you sent this ask before the new chapter came out, because for the first time in the main story we see a Tao that is no longer that sweet boy from the Naked Truth Arc. He is slowly becoming what he was born to be, as we learn in Finder no Rakuin - the rightful heir to the Baishe.
And that is, in many aspects, another loss for Fei Long. For all those years he kept Tao away from the truth, hoping that he would end up choosing a different path in life, hoping that he wouldn’t have to shoulder the same burdens Fei Long himself had to carry. As you said, Tao might be to Fei Long what Akihito is to Asami, albeit in different proportions - a “flicker of light in an ocean of darkness”. But while Akihito is still shown to keep that light, Tao is very clearly embracing a world of crime that will charge a high price in the future.
So there goes that.
Then there is the more practical aspect that Tao is Yan’s son, and as such, the rightful Dragon Head of the Baishe, not Fei Long. From the looks of it, the members of the triad already know that (I seriously doubt they would take orders from a teenage servant, but what do I know). And if they do know, then Fei Long’s days in the Baishe might be numbered. Maybe he will merely hold down the fort til Tao comes of age, who knows. That is not how triads operate in real life but fiction rarely does a good job portraying that (and yaoi in general does it even worse, not only with triads but with the yakuza as well).
But I digress. Back to your question, Fei Long’s future is now more unclear than ever. His sweet little Tao is growing up and is no longer a mere loving companion. He loves someone that doesn’t love him back (Asami). He just struck a deal with a man whose intentions and character are still as undefined as they could possibly be (Mikhail). He is at the mercy of a criminal that has repeatedly tried to kill Asami and Akihito (Aaron).
Let’s remember, however, that amidst all the chaos sensei chose to bring back Yoh, the only man whose love for Fei Long has never faltered, and whose love resonated with Fei Long despite everything they’ve been through.
I have faith sensei will give us reasons to be happy sooner or later.
Lol also wanted to ask, from a fellow Feilong lover to another; do you think Feilong and Yoh will work out? I mean okay I wouldn't be surprised if his organization was the one at least in on hus kidnapping because you know all that has happened: him loosing the black market list names, most likely wasting a lot of time and valuable resources on getting at Asami, and his foolish not really well drawn out plan to go to Hong Kong. And bringing a traitor back wouldn't be pretty to begin with.
Ah, that’s a tough one, and that is the one thing I wish people would take into consideration. Fei Long’s romantic developments (that is, if he ever gets those) need to be coherent with his character, with his aspirations, with his own roadblocks. And as you mentioned, roadblock extraordinaire is the Baishe, regardless of whether he picks Yoh or Mikhail or neither.
The Baishe is Fei Long’s driving force. Unlike Asami, who we now know never intended to have his own… criminal organization, so to speak, Fei Long was born and raised to be part of a triad. He embraced his role as a leader, he embraced the hurdles it entails, he has not shown any intention to leave that life behind even though he honestly wishes Tao would not follow in on his footsteps because that’s a helluva tough life.
The reason why I keep repeating that is because I sometimes get the impression some fans envision Fei Long riding into the sunset with a stunning man by his side, ready to live the romance of a lifetime and exchange vows of eternal love away from that nasty, nasty organization of his. What we need to remember, tho, is that Fei Long does not want to be rescued from the Baishe. He is the Baishe.
And that poses a huge problem, doesn’t it? He is the Dragon Head of a triad, and that is a path marked by solitude. It is what makes his storyline so poignant: Fei Long is a lonely man who craves for a sense of belonging and seems fated not to find it. Can he afford to have a love life at all? If it is Yoh that he wants, can he afford to have him, even if that means being seen as a weak leader by his organization?
As you said, bringing Yoh back was a bold move on Fei Long’s part because they both know the triad is not as forgiving as him. When did it happen, when did they reconnect?! How did the Baishe react when Yoh returned? What was he introduced as? He is clearly not a subordinate anymore but he is still in a position to liaise with other Baishe members as we see in the end of the latest chapter. There is a lot we have not been given so either we A) assume that the events of FnR are all the background we need, or; B) sensei is going to give us a flashback of some sort explaining all that.
I can’t wait to see where this is going. Only two more weeks of wait and we will hopefully have something juicy heading our way!
Wait- wait- wait I think you are onto something with uke/seme position here. Because wherever I picture Feilong with someone it is normally one who has a profession that is either equal or above his in status or rank. Yoh he isn't particularly wealthy or... omg I think I have become like Kirishima, Suoh, Sudou, Kuroda, all them other status means a lot hating bitches.
And here’s Fei himself on the subject of status and worth:
Woah wow where have you been? Lol first off love your page, nice to see another fellow Feilong lover. And in your recent post I agree about the whole Feilong and Asami being a thing, never gonna happen. People say that either Mikhail and Yoh would be an indeal match. Or someone who is in a a combination of the two. I really hope Feilong finds peace with Asami because I feel until thise feelings are fully addressed he can find thay special someone and truly love them:)
Hehe… Well, you have heard of unreliable narrators, yeah? Let’s just say I’m an unreliable blogger. Long hiatuses, poor time management, lack of organizational skills… I’m the whole enchilada.
And ah… Good ol’ Liu Fei Long and his much discussed love life! At this point, it all depends, really, on how seriously people take Finder no Rakuin. If sensei herself sticks to her guns and follows through on what she approved on the novel, then that special someone is either Tao or Yoh. Considering the fact she keeps saying her characters don’t age, tho, we can pretty much rule Tao out, sooo….
BUT (because there is always a but), we also need to remember that FnR was written a bazillion years ago, when sensei wanted to tie things up with Fei Long and probably didn’t even dream she would bring him back as a major part of a new arc half a decade later.
She is absolutely under no obligation to pick up where things left of in the novel, or even to acknowledge the facts of FnR in the main storyline.
For all we know, Yoh might be back in the story to serve a greater purpose or no purpose at all. Maybe she is gauging people’s expectations, maybe she is teasing fans, maybe she already has it all sorted out or has nothing sorted out at all. That is the thing with serial writing: if you give a character resolution you close an arc and you reduce your options. And maybe with Fei Long she has no intention of closing any possible paths, be it with Yoh, with Mikhail or with an entirely new character we haven’t even been introduced to yet.
Not to mention an even bigger issue here: is Fei Long fated to have a love life at all? The choices he and Asami have made in that area are not exactly the same; what Fei wants and what Asami wants bear a fundamental difference. Asami wants someone who belongs to the “light”, Fei wants someone who is capable of walking side by side with him in the darkness of their world. That makes for a love story that contains vastly different elements than the ones we got used to seeing with AxA.
Ah yes our last hoorah indeed. I swear I go ghost on tumblr for a bit and this what I come back to. I hope they don't do some bull like close down you're account or something. Because your blogs have been my Finder safehaven. *somebody post the For Narnia GIF!*
Aw, thank you. If they do shut me down--and/or destroy the wider tumblr yaoi fandom--it’s going to be so depressing. Hopefully, a new community can be built elsewhere.
I haven’t gotten notice that my blog will be terminated. I got notice it was flagged early on (it was removed from tumblr’s search engine,) so I just have to wait to see what happens tomorrow.
But I worry that tumblr isn’t going to stop with censoring images. They say text erotica is fine, but facebook is already starting to crack down on language. I think it’s only a matter of time until that spreads to tumblr, too.
