Packing for short trips
Written by Yen Hoang
Personally, packing is one of the most stressful things on my to-do list before any trip. After several weeks of taking mini adventures, I have adopted some handy tips to make this stressful process more productive and less painful.
#1 Plan your outfits, day-to-day. This avoids overpacking (my biggest flaw). Think of this process as planning outfits for a week of university or a week in general. When considering shoes, always remember to bring comfortable footwear. Who am I kidding, you still need to look fierce whilst on holidays right? I personally am loving flatforms, as they give me height and provide comfort. Finally, put the bottoms with tops, and accessories in between, packed. Dresses folded with accessories etc.
#2 Underwear, how many pairs is always the undecided question. Think of how many days you're going and opt for that same number. If the trip is longer than 7 days, bring 5-7 pairs. This allows a couple of days before you have to do laundry again. Furthermore, planning your outfits (as suggested above) will allow you to think about what undergarments you need - to avoid the awkward black lace underwear under a silk white dress (common sense).
#3 Creased clothes and no iron? When you get to the hotel, use the hangers to hang the creased clothing and when taking a hot shower leave them in the bathroom hanging straight. Humidity will eliminate any wrinkles. If the item is not as straight as desired, all it takes is a little manipulation after that shower by holding the item and gently pulling it outwards. Alternatively, seek concierge for rental of an iron. Whilst packing, also consider rolling your clothes as this prevents creases and place delicate items on the top and heavier clothes towards the bottom of the luggage.
#4 Check the weather. Common sense really, but remember to check the forecast to ensure weather appropriate outfits. If you're heading to London or any city with unpredictable PMS weather, always remember to pack an umbrella no matter how sunny it appears to be.
Wherever you're heading, have a great trip! I'm gearing up for Paris next week, above are my selections! Talk about an assortment of neutrals.
