Welp, there are exactly zero sources of lava and/or obsidian in my one-chunk challenge, so the question of “does going to the nether break the rules” becomes irrelevant. I did get hit by a rather confused Pillager raid though, and had a visit from an invisible sales-dude. The mobs I was hearing during the previous session turned out to be in a very small tunnel, and amusingly enough I got two enderman eyes out of that. Thanks, I’ll... just... put those in a chest with everything else.
Speaking of chests, I ended up with almost three full chests of cobblestone by the time I finished clearing out the chunk. About all that’s left is floors in between levels designated for various purposes, like the unfinished wheat farm, and two tree-growing levels so I can use the top yard for something else. The room with the nicely patterned ceiling was going to be a portal room but I think now I’ll just turn it into an open floorplan living area. Needs a nicer floor first, though. And the big empty space (last pic) is the section between the bedrock mob-spawn area and upper levels because I don’t know what to do with it but I figured I may as well clear all the blocks out and found a little bit of gold in the process. Whoo clocks!
Bedrock is now a monster spawn area if I ever bother to go down there again. I didn’t want to use anywhere that’d get notably damaged by creepers, and there’s not really anything mobs can drop that I can’t live without in a playthrough as limited as this one. My end goals at this point are decking out the living space level, building an observation tower to peep at the outside world, and... getting one more bucket of water, because a cauldron filled with rainwater earlier so we’re one or two more rainstorms away from eternal water.

Somebody figured out how to make banners in Minecraft... or at least, apply colors and flail at the results. These are the two test runs that turned out well in creative mode, one with three color variations and the other looks kinda like Lucio’s frog from Overwatch with really beefly legs. I think I’m gonna use one of the patterned ones in my village project, or maybe all three. I really wish orange/yellow worked better but the extra pixel is really obvious with that combo, so that makes using something closer to the village’s current building color palette pretty much impossible.
The promised ship update, and it’s... a little stubby. The masts are way too short, especially the main ones. That project is on pause for the moment as I tend to other things (like having found the End portal with one immediately-poofing ender eye and a crapton of luck). But as it stands, the interior probably won’t change much so have some shots of the galley, first mate’s cabin, navigator’s cabin, and captain’s cabin.

I feel like this happens more often than it should. Could be my fault too, for purposefully spawning a portal underwater (okay I assumed it would be floating over the water, but the game had other ideas). Gotta get them compass directions in the nether somehow! :D
We also popped the bubble on seeing how far out land is from our lone island seed. Quite a large landmass to the north, west, and east, though south is a bit more messed up and involves even more water, in case we didn’t have enough already. There are also a ludicrous number of water temples around. Sponges, anyone?
“Lone island” drop-pit done. And we had a rather insistent visitor while working on it... seriously dude, I don’t feel like getting murderated right now, so kindly stop trying to make me look at you and/or accidentally hit you with my pick. Quite the youtube, ain’t ya?
The new cave-related updates are pretty cool looking, but also make drop pits harder to pull off. Thankfully, the underground chasm I hit wasn’t dead center so I had some wall to work with. And what are the odds a geode will have spawned in my path as well? Incredibly high, apparently. XD
