craig is so fucking emotionally repressed and afraid of being vulnerable and open about his feelings and bottles them up way too much until he cant handle it and it never gets resolved i love him
he thinks he "is in control of his emotions", but in reality it seems like he's moreso blocking them out or ignoring them, or trying to rationalize the situation. (at least that's what it seems to be the case judging by the fact that's how he tried to help tweek feel better in Put It Down.) But it's literally canon that his primary weakness is communication so its definitely moredifficult for him to express his emotions unless he burts them out (like in his argument with tweek in put it down.)
love his relationship with tweek, it really forces him to confront an important part of life he is shown avoiding - emotions. and by talos it is difficult for him but he's learning.
though at the same time he's overwhelmed and overburdened, since tweek is pretty emotional and sometimes potentially clingy (due to him being naturally insecure of himself and somewhat relying on craig for encouragement), this might be perceived as a threat for craig who's practically afraid of emotions or vulnerability, and probably doesnt know how to manage them the best.
this is best shown (but not resolved) in Buddha Box where Cartman says the buddha box can help him block out anxiety or other people that may overburden him. he begins to talkabout tweek and feeling like hes always asking for his attention. so he just tries blocking everything out instead of confronting this or communicating this to tweek. its pretty interesting how they practically made it canon that he actually struggles with anxiety, despite him being the monotone, deadpan and calm one, especially when compared to tweek. im pretty disappointed they didnt resolve this by the end, but boy am i glad they showed the part of him that struggles as much as others. from what we know, craig is really not that close to many people, or much things, besides stripe, his guinea pig... so given his difficulties with communicating and accepting his feelings accompanied by the fact that he isnt and never was close to that many people, i dont blame him for finding it difficult to exactly manage his relationshiip with tweek, especially as tweek is really emotional himself. and craig does care, a lot, and does want tweek to be happy, and he tries helping him by simply being logical and coming up with solutions, rather than thinking emotionally, but sometimes that's simply not enough. and he does learn that in put it down but sort of starts struggling again in buddha box, except this time instead of learning to be emotinally vulnerable for tweek, he shuts himself off from everyone. though hopefully one day he learns to be more open, because that's pretty important in general but especially in a relationship, i think.
eurghhhh they complete each other so well. they are so different which does prove itself to be an obstacle but also is important for both of them, because they learn soo much from each other. Tweek learned how to be more confident in himself 'in a way he never has before' thanks to craig. and tweek is helping craig learn how to manage emotional relationships and life better and understand emotions in general.
Im not sure where exactly his emotional suppression comes from. It could be due to his family being more closed off. it could be due to him possibly being autistic. it could be due to both. it could be due to neither. but i love him nonetheless.

They loved each other, though they are horrible cor each other that doesn't mean they don't care for each other (case in point: drake)
This is not to say drew isn't in love with Jake (I'm a big drew-is-in-love-with-jake-and-the-closet-is-made-of-glass-truther myself) but I don't think drew dated her just for reputation, they both have a messed up way of showing and receiving love (Drew's love language is gift giving, and Zoey might feel loved when given money which is weird af but it makes sense in a way, her getting a sugar daddy could be to get more money but also more love ever since drew might've started acting distant or uncaring towards her or she felt like his love and attention wasn't enough, cuz she seems extreme desperate for respect and attention and stuff like that, given how she usually makes herself to be the center of attention so often and how she tries putting herself above everyone else, meanwhile Drew would pay more attention to jake than her at times lmao, which might've made her angry or jealous or idk. but she craved his gifts, his love at one point.)

When drew found out zoey cheated on him, he was quite obviously upset, as anyone would be, really. Though you could say that, in a way, he seemed to be more upset about Jake not telling him Zoey cheated on him, than... Zoey cheating on him. Again, the show prioritizes how Drew feels about Jake over how he feels about Zoey, which makes it a bit more complicated to break down the true feelings behind Droey. (Plus, all the other ships have canon origins. Lander - childhood best friends. Jailey - met at freshman year, but Jake turned his back on Hailey in order to fit in w the jomies, causing rivalry and mistrust between the two. Jaisy - met in middle school, where she encouraged Jake's passions. Milliot - milliot spinoff ep1, see for yourself. Etc etc. but droey? We don't know how they met or how they got together. I assume it's gonna be revealed in S2 at one point. And it might be really important.)
At one point he worries about Zoey not asking him to buy her anything one time they went out. This was because that's his way of showing love like I said earlier. He was worried because she, in a way, rejected his love. He was worried she didn't love him anymore.
For what reason? Because he loved her.
Now, why does he act distant or ignorant to her at times? Heck if I know. In ep9 for example he seems more annoyed from her than anything else, really. Maybe he's fallen out of love..maybe he's tried of her. Maybe his love for Jake outweighed his love for Zoey. Maybe he felt like she didn't love him anymore, so he didn't feel like trying to love her either. Maybe something else entirely.
But either way ....

Now, what is "the line" that separates romantic and platonic love? I honestly don't know. Was drew in love with her? Was it romantic or platonic? Could he have mistaken his feelings for something else? Idfk. I honestly think romantic attraction makes no bullshit. That's not the point. He loved her. Now, the show focuses more on how he loved and how he misses Jake, but it's not like Jake is the only person he loves and cares about.
Now does ZOEY love DREW? that's a separate discussion to have. Throughout the show we don't get too much of Zoey tbh. Or we do, but the fandom doesn't pay enough attention to her like it does to other characters. Which makes sense ig? At first glance she seems like a one sided antagonist that could be described in simple terms like "girlboss", "mean girl" "popular girl" "annoying" "manipulative" and that's it. But upon further speculation I feel like there's more to her. In ep3 when Jake threatens to reveal to Drew that she has been cheating on Drew, that's the first and last time she seems to soften up and seem genuinely afraid or caring. Like yeah, she doesn't want to lose the privilege of having him as her bf, that's what it seems like.. but I also have the feeling she was genuinely afraid of losing him for reasons other than money? Even though we can assume she acts affectionate towards him only to manipulate him, I feel like, again, there's more than we can tell.
I feel like though, it could've been very possible that they wanted love and affection in general, but didn't love each other specifically? But the Teeth song makes me think that's not the case.

My mom also thinks Zoey might have had neglectful parents who mostly showed love to her through gifts and money, so that's why she's constantly seeking partners that give her such things, cause she's used to being loved that way - and being unloved as a child can make you have a messed up idea on what love is (this is the same exact backstory most people believe drew has, and honestly it makes sense for them both)

once upon a winter's night I was speaking to @/emmywlemmy (she has some good tmf art I reccomend) about the hypothetical Greater TMF Polycule (where we multi shippers just put all our ships) and we were like okay yay the jomies and jean! they can have a nice lil sleep over or something! and for the first time Drean was considered. so hear me out
1. drew needs more emotional maturity in his life and sean can very much be that emotional maturity. even though drew has friends, he doesnt exactly form deeper emotional connections, at least not to the extent that he had with jake yknow? I feel like drew and sean could also have those deeper talks that we dont see drew have with henry, liam, Zoey, etc..
2. enemies to lovers. I feel that itd be fun to see them learn to understand each other better and I think that out of the music club, sean would probably be the most open to getting to know drew despite everything?
3. drew can buy sean presents and sean deserves that
the idea is less in canon and more like future fanon in my head. like again I was talking to someone about a jomies+jean sleepover and we went okay. but what if sean got up in the middle of the night to leave (probably because of shit with their parents, something or other) but drew followed them and talked to them. The thing is, ive considered it as a ship a while ago simply because they were my favorite characters, but havent thought about it on a deeper level and then just forgot about it... though lately ive definitely seen an upspring in the amount of people shipping them and i can see it even though it is very unlikely that theyll actually interact in canon.
i feel like the potential of drew having parent issues (which i sometimes forget isnt actually confirmed) can also add more into this ship... and possibly make them parallel each other!?!? Assuming Drew is neglected by his parents or something akin to that, he would grow to have attachment and control issues and just really struggle with not being seen as important or needed in others lives, making him clingy and jealous and not being able to stand the idea of the people that he cares about leaving him... whereas with sean and HIS emotionally absent parents i belive hes become mucb more used to others not being there for him and his emotional needs not being met, so hes just accustommed to feeling more lonely or not being comforted during tough times, so he puts on a fake smile at times and generally dislikes others showing genuine concern over him because he might feel as if hes not worth others attentions, so he doesnt seek it out like drew, abd instead of dealing w his probelms he just escapes from them through music bc hes not used to confronting the emotions that havent been adressed as much as they should be throughout his chiildhood. however, he knows what its like to not be treated with care and kindness and patience from his home. and while he doesnt expect others to treat him diffrenetly, he doesnt want anyone else to feel that way bc he knows how much it hurts to have your emotional needs ignored. in sypnosis they may shgare the same struggles but have learned to deal with them in different ways
i guess my only "problem" with it is that a lot of the expectations on keeping the relationship stable and emotionally mature are set on sean? though thats the case with most sean ships from what ive seen. i suppose its simply in his nature to put others before himself like that... but i think drew could grow to genuinely appreciate sean and learn to confront his attachment issues and learn to appreciate himself as well irregardless of his relationships or how much other people pay attention to him. drew is constantly surrounded by so many fake people (zoey, jake, henriam, basically everyone he knows and cares about), and while sean does have a tendency to not necessarily put his emotions on display so hes not entirely honest all the time i think drew having someone that just loves him for who he is and not what he has to offer is really important, and just having someone that he could talk to in regards to a shitton of emotions he might be holding back. as for how the relationship would affect Sean - i think drew could sometimes snap him back into reality?? i dont think drew is inherentlys the most emotionally mature person on the planet, and as ive mentioned it here before i think he holds his emotions back at times, i think what he values heavily is Honesty, kind of contrasting seans escapism. drew also might be a bit self centred at times (or just actually thinks about how things affect him), while sean is much more humble and tends to put others before himself. idk. again im sort of having trouble enviosining what Drean would mean to Seans character. Maybe Drews harshness(?) would make sean realize that its ok to prioritize his emotions at times? and maybe face his emotions better. the concept of drew buying things for sean is also cute, its how drew shows love bc thats how he was shown love growing up while sean may not be super used to being shown much attention or love throughout his life and is also broke bc he works at a minimum wage part time job and his parents probably dont bother to lend him anything. sean is very attentive and understanding of others so i doubt hed question drews ways of affection. i also think them getting closer would make sean understand the jomies POV in the whole climax of s1 and everything that happened AND how that affected them
I also think Drew getting to know Sean better would help him try and understand people better and getting to know others more before judging them ( i mean he is a bully, he was also briefly shown bullying elliot in millys song, so maybe he has a bit of trouble when it comes to understanding others???? or how other people might be affected? like maybe he struggles w empathy just a bit (not saying that makes u a bad person i also struggle with empathy oftenly so idk if im self projecting here or something else). like maybe at first drew woul.d see sean as "that random sean guy, a music freak" but then come to understand him more and mayhapas by extension others and the other music freaks and why music might be so important to them, which could help him grow and stop being a jerk when he really doesnt need to be one .
i think there are interesting things that stand in the way however, that being the club, especially jake and hailey. drew sees jailey as people whove hurt him (in different ways) while theyre some of seans closest friends he cares deeply about. wonder how theyd sort that out. but i think i already wrote enough about them lol. . asshole and cinnammon roll
