George Russell in the Space Age
The ever astute Tom Schnabel of KCRW in Los Angeles writes of George Russell’s modal innovations in jazz, putting forth the Lydian Mode, for example, in the historic Jazz In The Space Age album that features Bill Evans and Paul Bley on pianos. The interview with George is engrossing and so typical of his grounded orthodoxy on modality.
