Today marks the first time I've ever been so fascinated by a musicology reading that I read more than I had to without noticing.

I don't really understand the point of having us read about Arnold Schoenburg if they don't want us to read about the theory behind what he did.  It's kind of like talking about the history of the auto industry without talking about Henry Ford...
