Letter to the Editor: Fuck J. Jonah Jameson.
I’m assuming it was important to me that I receive this, given the fact that you felt the need to send it in twice, so I’ll give you the response you’re so clearly desperate for.
The short response, of course, is this: It is my first amendment right as a journalist to publish what I see fit in my paper. If this offends you, there are other papers available for purchase. I encourage you to buy one. I assure you, the Daily Bugle will survive.
The longer answer is as follows.
This city has seen havoc wreaked on its citizens, in no small part because of the so-called heroes who live here. Masked vigilantes hold our citizens hostage, getting us into trouble that only they can get us out of. I ask you, who is responsible for the creation of Ultron? Would the Punisher have ravaged the streets of our great city if Daredevil had not shown him it was possible? Would the Joker exist without Batman to encourage him?
The answer, of course, is a resounding no.
For every problem ‘heroes’ solve, there are ten more that they cause. For every person they save, there are thousands who are not so lucky. Every success story can be countered with events like Sokovia, events like Washington DC. It is not the Avengers we owe our lives to. It is not the Justice League or the X-Men. New Yorkers owe our lives to other New Yorkers. To first responders like the ones who cleared the streets of New York while the heroes were too busy fighting invisible demons in the streets during a powered individual’s rampage through the city just last week.
I won’t apologize for placing people willing to put their lives on the line without superpowers above those who cause more problems than they solve. That’s not what this paper --- or I --- am about. If you don’t like that, I’m sure there’s another publication where you’ll be more happy.
