Whitechapel Wanderings || Closed Starter for torqueriinmortalis
All the Doctor could hear at first was a rhythmic pattern of soft squeaking: the soles of his trainers over yards of concrete. The sidewalks bracketed Whitechapel’s city blocks as he wandered, passing only an old human here and there partially obscured, their faces half-mooned by sallow streetlight and his own walking form passing by and eclipsing them from the light.
Whitechapel. He snorted a little, asking himself why he’d chosen to wander here tonight. Of course, in present day it was relatively safe, but he tended to avoid being here anytime in 1888. For good reasons.
He glanced at the spread of inky and glittering tiny diamonds overhead. It was 2:00 A.M., and the sun would not slip its persimmon head above the horizon for another good four hours. A chilly breeze brushed around him, enough to make him thankful he’d worn his long brown trenchcoat tonight. But then again, he handled the brittle wintry air of the Oodsphere with only this trenchcoat, whereas Donna Noble needed a full, over-sized down-stuffed parka...
He could never stop thinking about her. Even back on San Helios, even with as clever as Lady Christina had been, he wished that Donna had been there, even with the horrible metal monsters eating everything insight, and piloting the bus, sending it careening through the wormhole back to Earth...
A soft moan broke the silence, and his reverie. He hadn’t seen anyone else on the street during his last several minutes of walking. Curiosity taking hold of him, he followed the noise, rounding a corner...and as he did, he saw the flash of a black trenchcoat hem.
