The kids had a blast talking about apples with @mtstep1 yesterday. . They started with How Do Apples Grow? from the Hello, World! book series I recently discovered and LOVE. Then they used this printout from @creativelittleexplorers and looked inside an apple. . Yesterday’s activities were all about Q is for Queen 👸. So we started by reading about our current favorite queens — Anna and Elsa. We decorated the first letter of our names with jewels. Then jumped into our trays: . 1. Little q -> a Queen from @abcstoacts . 2-3. Castle maze and dot to dots. (We need to do more of these! They were fun but challenging.) . 4. Graphing castle things — I believe the dragon “won” . 5. Counting shapes in these castles from @myteachingstation — these were really good printables for working on our shapes and numbers. . 6. A quick Queen puzzle and size order activity. . We finished up with some painting frozen pictures! They hadn’t painted at their easels in a long time and they loved it! H was referencing the Frozen book and had all sorts of color mixing going on to try to make it realistic 💙 . Also: while this all looks fun and easy, baby K was literally a disaster the whole time. We had so much fun with the letter I this week! We started with my personal favorite Elephant and Piggy — “Should I Share My Ice Cream?” then flew through some trays: . 1. @royalbaloo I is for ice cream truck was a favorite, especially since our cousins have a real ice cream truck! . 2. These ice cream shape/color matching printables from @totschooling that we love. They each did one and then swapped. . 3 and 4. @abcstoacts Turned big I into an island and little i into an iguana! There was a quick video on PBS kids because island was the word of the week so we watched that on YouTube then used our new maps to find islands. Then we watched some really cool videos on there about iguanas— did you know they have a 3rd eye on top of their heads? And even just mentioning “eye” when studying “I” was a great discussion! . 5. I’ve been using @royalbaloo’s sight words in the transportation pack, so we’ve done “is” but here we looked at is/if/it/in and sorted them, saying them as we went along. . 6. We focused on letter H last week — a favorite around here 😜. My MIL came to watch the kids one day and I left these trays out for them to work on - I was really impressed by how well they did for her. Also, I forgot to show them how to put the horse together from @abcstoacts but I kinda love their creativity on that one 😂 . 1. Covered a big H with 💗s . 2. Turned a little h into a unique horse . 3. Read Harold and the Purple Crayon then did these tracing pages from @totschooling . 4. Also from @totschooling these shape puzzles to make houses . 5. Some letter D action today...started with a few rounds of Lucky Ducks, then read one of my favorites, Make Way for Ducklings. I bought this copy on a trip to Boston years ago and just realized I’d never read with the kids. I added some little ducks to their construction site as well, so they had to get them safely out of there. . Love all of the books I found with D words! We spent a while before quiet read time hunting for Ds in the book titles. I need to get some magnifying glasses bc that would be a fun addition to that game! . For our trays: 1 and 2. Duck and dragon crafts together . 3. Quick find the Ds for H and tracing for M . 4. @royalbaloo letter d dice graphing with dump truck, dozer, and new sight words up & down . 5. Letter D mazes (this one confused M a bit...lots of letters look similar to D and d!) . 6. We read Little Blue Truck then made construction paper dump trucks. For yesterday’s trays, we stayed on letters A-C and worked on a few sight words — the zoom ABC set I got includes sight words and I hadn’t been working on them much but realized H was picking them up on his own. So we integrated them a bit more. . Started with a letter C reminder, did a quick C hunt on our bookshelf, then read Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site’s ABCs. . For our trays: 1. Magnet letters with our first 3 words: the, and, big. . 2. Roll the dice for the sight words with some graphing — I’ll share more about this bc it is so much more fun than I would’ve imagined. . 3. Crowns — we decorated crowns with jewels and puff balls. . 4. Some counting and matching — H most liked one where he had to connect shapes w the number of sides they had. And I helped M get started then realized she knows 1, 2, and 3! . 5. More matching - just with letters A, B, and C. Then some sight word tracing. . 6. My husband uses our “classroom” as his office when school isn’t “in session” and in order to swap locations before his call this morning, I would’ve had to interrupt some serious paw patrol imaginary game happening...so I set our things up in the front window instead. I like going downstairs to help us all focus, but I’ll admit it was nice to be upstairs and get some things done around the house between activities. . We talked about our letter B crafts and reminded ourselves how to write B’s. Then we read a favorite — A Big Guy Took My Ball. And flew threw our trays today...a bit faster than I had hoped but that’s okay. Most were the unused activities from yesterday w a few modifications: . 1. The bee book and shapes . 2. We used sponges to paint bananas— we’ve never painted with sponges so that was smthg fun and different. Don’t know that the finished project really looks likes bananas...not the best cutting skills on my end 🤦🏼‍♀️ . 3. Bus coloring pages . 4 & 5. Letter dot pages and mazes with highlighters. I was sure M wouldn’t be able to do the maze but she literally AMAZED me — followed the Bs all the way though. So darn cool to watch her little brain working so hard! Plus they liked the bunny sort in there too. . 6. The learning resource bugs were a great hit! I made a little gameboard real fast and they used the tweezers to move around. . Afterwards, H’s real teacher had them do a shape scavenger hunt via zoom. We are so lucky their teachers welcome siblings bc M loves these activities as much as H does.
