OJT EATS | Totto Ramen

There are so many ramen places in Taipei, it would unfortunately take far longer time than we have to try every one. However, that isn't going to stop us from trying and this week, we headed down to Totto Ramen in Taipei. Totto actually started in NYC rather than in Japan and slightly weirdly, only has shops in the USA and Taiwan. We were a little sceptical about it being American instead of Japanese but we headed down with an open mind.

It started off well with the often seen char siu rice as a side. I feel it is a distinctly Japanese ramen shop thing to have the most common side to a big bowl of noodles to be a slightly smaller bowl of rice! This like many others we've had was topped with lashings of Japanese mayo which we never complain about. A very nice start to the meal.

Then it was onto the actual ramen. This bowl was their classic chicken broth ramen. We've had a few different chicken ramens lately and this one is definitely on the richer side of the scale which was nice. It's still not quite up there with a tonkotsu for richness but it's definitely not light!

We also ordered the spicy version with pork char siu instead of the chicken. The broth was the same as the other bowl, rich and full of flavour. The added kick from the chilli was relatively mild but just added that little bit of heat that was quite nice.

People in Taipei really are spoilt for choice when it comes to good ramen. It's not quite Japan but it's a pretty good alternative and especially for something that came out of the USA, Totto Ramen does a very good bowl of ramen and definitely worth a return visit!
