THE CART : Early morning, I left Karachi's international airport to walk about the area. On the way, I came across two carts where people were waiting. ROAD WORK : Whilst walking along this motorway, I offer you a glimpse as to how a Pakistan community who never saw tourists lived 30 years ago. Here you see a few men doing some road work. If you look carefully under the sign, you see a man shoveling some dirt. Notice the man in white standing next to him and the rope he is holding (you don't actually see it, but trust me :). It is attached to the shovel and the man is pulling on it to help the other worker with his shoveling. The man standing in dark blue between the sign and the pole, is the man lighting up a cigarette in a portrait previously posted. Once again, he is underexposed... [for more info, please read the caption of the first photo in this serie] TRAVAUX ROUTIERS : En parcourant cette portion d'autoroute, je vous offre un aperçu de la façon dont une communauté pakistanaise qui n'a jamais vu les touristes y vivait il y a 30 ans. Ici, vous voyez quelques hommes lancés dans des travaux routiers. Si vous regardez attentivement sous le signe, vous verrez un homme pelleter de la terre. Notez l'homme en blanc debout à côté de lui et la corde qu'il tient (vous ne le voyez pas réellement, mais croyez-moi :). La corde est attaché à la pelle et l'homme la tire vers lui pour aider l'autre ouvrier avec son pelletage. L'homme debout en bleu foncé entre le panneau et le poteau, est l'homme qui allume une cigarette dans un portrait précédemment posté. A FEW GOOD MEN : My memory is failing me. I don't recall the interaction I had with these men. Some were obviously in there working clothes. Towards the end of the day, a group of young men were following me. As the road I followed got more and more deserted (less shops and less people), I bid them goodbye and I walked back quickly to the airport, taking one or two more pictures on the way. A PAN AM EMPLOYEE PAUSE WITH HIS FAMILY AND OTHER KIDS: PAN AM went bankrupt in 1991. I wonder how this man managed to feed his family after he lost his job.
