Mt Waddington looms over 6,500 verticle feet above @drewthayer in basecamp in beautiful weather. Unlike this stunning day, most of our time on this expedition was spent hunkering or climbing through inclement weather, caught off guard by fickle conditions and inaccurate forecasts. Some of the most profound lessons I've learned, albeit not always gracefully, have occurred in the mountains in response to turning back from an objective or while hunkering. These scenarios force one to make the most of a situation. If done gracefully, this can precipitate beauty and wonder in an often frustrating and ostensibly unfortunate scenario. Done poorly, it can turn you into a monster. When I look back on a life of climbing and exploring mountains, many of my fondest, most vivid memories did not occur during perfect weather like this. Instead, they happened during what at the time seemed like an unfortunate situation - turning back knowing that the summit was so close or while stuck in a tent, laughing, playing games, listening to lightening and thunder, and cooking. It's difficult to make the best out of a trying situation. #aacgram #liveclimbrepeat #ic_adventures #waddington #lasportiva #ThroughANewLensContest #TPSExtreme @thephotosociety #vivalosfunhogs #ngconassignment
