Well, I'll be honest. There are many of us who only read Rick Riordan's books because of Solangelo. People said there was a gay couple, and that was enough to win me over. And many others too. Even in the Spanish-speaking fandom, there's a PDF that summarizes PJO, HOO, and TOA so that those who only want to read Solangelo can understand the context and just read the TOA excerpts and move on to TSATS and TCOTD (honestly, the only books I bought). And I have a printed copy because the girl at the bookstore sold it to me when I bought TSATS. There's no greater interest after that. Just the gay ship, and that's it. For most of us, we only read about gay characters, and when there's a het couple, we lose interest. And honestly, there are many of those fans who, if one of the characters is trans, don't consider them gay and lose interest immediately.

Before you come at me with moralistic speeches, they're fictional characters and aren't even entirely human. Real relationships don't interest us, so shipping isn't a movement, activism, or anything like that. They aren't real, and their lives aren't based on real things. Latinamerica has always made fun of how much people in the United States want to impose their morality on fictional characters who aren't entirely human, but who don't do anything in real life.

So yes, it's true that many would lose interest in Rick Riordan's books if they changed the gay ship. Or make them trans.

besides i dont play around with will being trans cause he's sweet and gentle and caring and stuff (also i dont think its fair to boil his character down to just the healer archetype) its cause i see a lot of me and my other trans friends in him, his confidence is already canonically largely just a face he puts on because he's in a leading role, and i see a young boy who struggled to find himself, who wasn't always mr sunshine healer boy.

I have nothing against the HeadCanon, but I personally like the idea of ​​Nico and Will both being cis men, because Rick already wrote Magnus and Alex's relationship as queer/Alex as gender fluid (which includes trans people).

Okay, I totally get where you're coming from here, and it's super valid. In that specific comic, I was 1, doing a popular incorrect quote. 2, I never specified Percy's gender and 3. I never specified why they got caught.

To clarify those points

1. You're correct some depictions of that quote can easily be seen as transphobic

2. In that comic I was depicting percy as a Boy. Whether that's a cis or a trans boy doesn't matter but in that comic I was going for Boy Who Is Comfortable In His Masculinity Having Fun

I mean we all have that one friend who would in a heartbeat dress up in the slutty dress and put on a girl voice just cause it's fun. (And because I have to cover all my bases, apparently, i mean in a lighthearted way. Just as lighthearted as women who dress up in suits and use their hair as a fake mustache and put on a low voice to act like a dude. Gender expression, whether genuine or satirical, doesn't have to be offensive.)

And 3. My main reason for that caption wasn't necessarily that he didn't pass but that he's both very easily recognizable as Percy Jackson Son Of Poseidon and would still easily be noticed as such no matter what he's wearing.

I also tried to specifically make the wig look bad quality like a party city wig ykwim? Just hard to get that across without color or shading

The moment I utter the word trans I get called a fetishist. When I draw a boy in a non conventional depiction of masculinity, I get called a transphobe.
