Translate and Transform

Translate and Transform is a 1 week project where we will take something and transform it into a new thing.

This is a way to generate something new.

And example of this is Stoxart.

Stoxart

Creating beautiful and stunning art from Stock Market charts.

Stoxart is created by Gladys Estolas, she took stock graphs and used the lines to create a piece of art that looks like different landscapes.

This practice is an way to show that you can make anything into art if you look properly.

Iteration on Letterforms

After creating the initial form of two letters, I felt the need to develop more detailed letterforms. To further experiment, I began creating the foundation of the alphabet to ensure consistency.

Typeforms with Shapes

After designing the pattern, I explored translating some of these shapes into letterforms. While the shapes create a 3D-looking effect, they could be further enhanced to better represent the original shapes.

Using Shapes to Create Patterns

After tracing the shapes, I explored creating a pattern. Overall, I liked the effect as it still captured the essence of the PS2 startup introduction. However, I wanted to take it further beyond just creating patterns.

After deciding on the subject, I began experimenting with shapes found within the intro by tracing the cubes. Upon research, it became apparent that each was generated differently. However, I decided to focus on one particular intro.

Notes & Thoughts

In the tutorial, I struggled to generate some concepts, and it was suggested that I choose something and start experimenting to make the process easier. During this conversation, I mentioned looking at fungi again, as well as the idea of freedom, but after the tutorial concluded, I decided that I did not want to pursue either.

A random thought crossed my mind about the nostalgia of my childhood when I used to load up the PS2 with a new game, experiencing the iconic start-up intro with its distinctive sound and visuals. I've decided to explore this concept further to avoid wasting time.
