Logline: Having survived a turbulent childhood, former foster youth Darroll Reed has achieved what some people would call success. But when a tragic incident explodes, Darroll is forced to turn adversity into an opportunity to do more for the greater good.
A childhood filled with trials and tribulations led Darroll Reed into a group home, The Journey House, where at last he found the mentorship that sparks the motivation to turn his life around. When we meet Darroll, he’s a husband, a father, and a teacher working with special needs children in an urban high school where violence is a part of the every day life. When that violence explodes in the form of gunshots, Darroll’s spontaneous act of heroism saves a student’s life. However, in the process, Darroll, the “public hero,” finds himself a source of embarrassment to the school district, thus reopening suppressed scars from his past. With his life in turmoil, Darroll is asked by his erstwhile mentor to assist in a crisis at the group home that changed his life. Neither, Darroll or the group home, will ever be the same again.
