RLE. Curacao, September 17, 2013. My first day back in Curacao. First thing I did was to pay a traffic fine. There were 7 people standing (no chairs) in a small waiting room of 1.5 m2. The message of that tiny room was: Curacao don’t give a fuck about you. The day before 400 people were waiting in the entrance hall of HATO (the airport). Lined up before customs we waited and waited to enter Curacao and spend our money on the Island. The message was clear: Curacao don’t give a fuck about you.
I am all in favor of clear messages. You never know; a global marketing campaign ” Curacao don’t give a fuck about you” might actually work. Hard-working people (touch of populism) might actually be masochistic and excited by the dominant master – Curacao. Hey, I do not put my money on it, but who knows – life is a surprise.
