As a college marching band member, I think we are missing out on one of the best possible Pitt AUs: all of the characters being leadership in a college marching band. The rehearsal drama, stress from busy schedules, bowl game travel shenanigans, and postgame parties have so much potential.
Robby, Abbott, Dana, and Al-Hashimi as band directors/assistant band directors/other music faculty at the college.
Collins and Shen as the cool music ed grad students that everyone loves
Samira is the first female drum major in the program’s history, and is SO proud of herself, although Robby puts a lot of pressure on her and is often less-than-constructive in his feedback
Princess and Perlah as flute/picc section leaders who are at the core of all the band social events. Both of them HATE playing the piccolo, and constantly argue over who should do it.
Mel as the sophomore clarinet section leader who is SUCH a great leader despite her quiet demeanor, and who is always checking in on Becca, who attends the college’s post secondary program for people with special needs. She and Langdon are lab partners for biology class (even though he’s older, he couldn’t complete the class last fall because of his addiction issues), and there’s absolutely nothing at all going on between them why would you ask
McKay and Javadi are alto section leaders together. Javadi is a sophomore music major, but she’s only seventeen, having skipped several grades in elementary school. She’s also beginning to think she doesn’t want to be a music major anymore—but don’t tell that to her jazz piano player mom. She also fainted after her first pregame performance freshman year, which is why Trinity calls her Crash.
McKay is a senior who managed to overcome a rough couple of years in high school to build a thriving college life—if only her POS high school ex-bf would leave her alone. She’s endlessly patient and amazing at teaching drill.
Donny as the tenor sax section leader—this just fits I think all my band ppl will agree
Langdon as the trumpet section leader—he became section leader as a sophomore, having marched DCI for several years. He was Robby’s golden boy in the band, and he was set to graduate in three years. However, then-freshman Santos caught him showing up to practice high, and Robby discovered that Langdon had become addicted to painkillers after injuring himself during DCI the previous summer. He’s now back as a section leader for his junior year, but he can feel Robby watching like a hawk, and waiting for him to slip, he’s set to graduate in four years instead of three, and the fact that he’s co-section leader with the now-sophomore Trinity certainly isn’t helping matters.
Trinity is the sophomore trumpet section leader, who, despite coming from a small town in the middle of nowhere, went to Grand Nationals every year in high school. She KNOWS she’s good, but sometimes she struggles to take feedback from other leadership, the directors, and grads.
Whittaker is the mellophone section leader. His freshman year, he was the last person to try on uniforms, and there were no pants left that fit him, so he would constantly get scolded for his ankles showing in uniform, hence Trinity’s nickname for him. He’s the founder of the rural and small town club at their college.
Jesse is the baritone section leader because that also just makes sense to me
Mateo is a junior drumline captain who Javadi had a GIANT crush on during her freshman year (he 110% plays quads)
Ogilvie is a trombone freshman who everybody is kind of on the verge of murdering all the time
Emma is a cute little colorguard freshman
And Joy is a freshman who surprises everybody by making snare line her first year
I’m sure I forgot some ppl feel free to add your ideas in the comments
Soooo who else gets the most random urge to get violent in the middle of nowhere whenever they remember that hbo just decided to end s2 with garsantos’s last scene together being the “just keeping it casual” scene and that’s it.
