So, in light of Taylor’s “announcement” countdown, I have been reflecting about how the last 14 years of my life have been shaped and inspired by Taylor and her music. Every song from every one of her albums holds a special place in my heart, and when Taylor released “repuation,” I was struggling myself to overcome judgement and gossip about being with my boyfriend who is 8 years older than me (we are still dating 2 years later and happily living together!!). That album helped me cope in ways that no other person could. This song got me through the darkest time in my adult life so far and I wanted to share my cover of it 🌸

drove 4 hours all the way to New York City to see the countdown, it was the best day ✨ New York will always hold a special place in my heart, the city where I met Taylor 💓

I don’t think I will ever adequately be able to put enough words together to explain how much I love her. 14, 15, 16, and 17 were probably the hardest years of my life. I never felt like I belonged, I never felt like I was food enough, I never felt like had anyone in my corner. The most frustrating thing was that I didn’t understand why I felt the way that I did. I didn’t understand why I was so unhappy, so sad, and so anxious all of the time. I didn’t have the words to describe how I was feeling, but I found them in her songs. I found them in choruses and versus and hooks. She had the words that I spent so long looking for. And I wasn’t lonely, not completely. Sometimes I still feel like the 16 year old girl that I was. I feel scared, and lost, and lonely, and sad, but those feelings don’t linger long when I listen to all of the words that she’s given me. Thank you for everything, @taylorswift . I will never me able to repay you. Thank you for the last 13 years. Thank you for giving me the words I couldn’t find. Thank you for being there when absolutely no one else was. Thank you, thank you, thank you, may these memories break our fall. I love you. I can’t wait until Friday, I can’t wait to see you soon. ✨

Olympic Countdown Challenge – Day 11

Favourite Interview

(I’m a bit late in getting this done. I can’t believe I was away from my laptop for the day, and so much goodness has come from the Roxanne documentary. That deserves its own post as I still have to watch it in full, and the from the snippets I’ve seen, it looks really good.)

Favourite interview – where to start? I’d have to pick something from one of their many post-comeback interviews. Scott just seems more free with his thoughts, less guarded in what he says. Tessa seems to mainly stay on script, but Scott has had some “Wait! What did he just say?!” moments. Overall they just seem so happy – with their team, their programs, with each other – and keeping their focus on enjoying the moments, learning, improving, doing this for themselves. And the intensity of staring at each other while talking has reached all new levels.

Canada in a day (technically not an interview):

S:  What do you love?

T: Canada!

S: Ooooohhhhh! I thought it was going to be me.

T: (Giggles)

Golden Skate interview (Hamilton stop of 2017 SOI tour):

Scott slipping into an Irish accent, hamming it up, and Tessa giggling for a good 20 seconds after that. Scott’s comments about Tessa really pulling him through at the Worlds, after he stumbled. Tessa saying she didn’t do anything and if that was a bad day for him, that was pretty good.

 The National (Dec 5 2017):

Scott not being able to live with himself if he ever lets Tessa down. Tessa quickly saying he couldn’t no, never.

Behind the scenes of the flag bearers photoshoot:

T: Every part of our athletic career has happened together. Every training session, every gym session, every on-ice competition, it sort of marks the culmination of our twenty-year partnership and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that.

S: It’s been the honour of my life, I think, to work with Tessa and to share this moment with her and to see the athlete that she is, the person that she is, I can’t think of anyone more deserving.

T&S apologizing for having to keep the announcement secret, talking about how they’ll be carrying the flag in – whatever they do, it will be as a team, voicing support for all the Team Canada athletes and racing to get to as many other events as they can.

Olympic Countdown Challenge

Day 3 - Favourite Kiss and Cry Moment

I guess this is not *technically* a kiss and cry moment but they were about to skate over to the K&C so I’ve decided that it still counts.

This was 2009 Nationals - their first competition since Tessa’s injury. Going into the 2008/2009 season we all thought that in order to win gold in Vancouver 2010 they had to win 2009 Worlds. That was how ice dance worked in those days. With the amount of pain that Tessa was in, they probably should’ve skipped the entire season all together. But I think that they felt like they had no choice.

They competed at Nationals, 4CC and Worlds. And you could see how difficult these 3 competitions were for them. There was talk that they had never done a full run-through of their Pink Floyd FD until Nationals. Tessa apparently had a wheelchair backstage at 4CC. You could see just how difficult this was for her.

This moment after their FD at Nationals when Scott told Tessa that he was proud of her was so special. Like he knew how much pain she was in and that she was putting herself through that for their partnership. This is a classic emotional Scott reaction. He didn’t plan this for the cameras; it was just what he was feeling in this exact moment.
