Dave and Jade: Transform. ==>

Yesterday's perfect, long-awaited date had ended, naturally, with cuddling in the blanket fort in Dave's room while Jade happily bickered with him about the nuances of the rules for Candyland. This day begins with a rude awakening by the collapse of the fort over their heads. Jade, snuggled up at Dave's side, shifts just slightly in her sleep, perhaps with the intention to scoot up even closer, but then he yelps in surprised pain, she echoes the sentiment with a bark, and there is a chaotic few minutes while they struggle blindly under the fallen blanket to discover what keeps yanking the other one around. At last Dave extricates himself and manages to sit up. He pulls the blanket down off his head and is rewarded with a riiiiipping sound through the fabric, along with another mysterious tug on his scalp. The blanket comes off in shreds while Jade groans with annoyed sleepiness behind him, reluctantly sitting up too.

JADE: what are you dooooiiiiing... DAVE: fucking-- what the fuck--

He tosses the tatters of what had been a cozy blanket fort off to the side and turns to look at her. She looks at him. There is a Moment.

JADE: oh boy... JADE: youre a troll babe DAVE: ... DAVE: what DAVE: ... DAVE: uh youre... JADE: listen we can still kiss, i guess, just so long as you havent started using grubpaste or eating bugs during this entire thing DAVE: ... uh...

He pokes at her horns. She glances down at her own grey skin.

JADE: oh JADE: how big are they JADE: can i get through doors JADE: am i fucked JADE: yours arent that big theyre probably going to be ok just be careful when you put shirts on

Dave pats at the top of her horn, wondering if she will be able to feel it and gauge their height that way.

DAVE: i dunno you might need to turn your head a little i guess JADE: thank god i guess thats not so bad

She tries to peer up at her horns, and he realizes he is looking down at her from a higher perspective than usual. He’s almost two feet taller than he was last night, and has to bend a bit to peer at her eye color.

DAVE: looks like youre something green JADE: dark or light? DAVE: kinda bright maybe almost neon JADE: youre pretty much the same as gamzee DAVE: ... DAVE: goddammit im a clown JADE: haha oops

Well, 

Dragons aren’t necessarily... rare, here? But they’re not especially common, and it’s even less common to successfully kill one. We’ve done what few others, if any, have acclawmplished on this planet. Dragon-made goods sell fur a lot here. That’s part of why we did it.

Edit: Nepeta helpfully purrvided a history check: We’re the only trolls here to kill a dragon and live.

But you also need to know that Beforus, at this point in time, doesn’t have knowledge of the multiverse. To my knowledge there are two transportalizer pads on the entire planet that have been reformatted for multiversal travel - Mine and Nepeta’s. If you have something on Earth (or wherever you are) that we don’t have here, it would likely be treated as a rare commodity.

Anything traded will likely be donated, to be sold by the charity for funds at an auction or something. The upper class on Beforus takes an interest in art and “higher pursuits.” Um... I want to say maybe an earth rap album, but depending on the language used it may not catually be understood by the trolls here. I’d have to ask Karkat and Nepeta if that would make it of more or less value.

He’s so your type it’s ridiculous. Actually, on very close inspection, anybody paying close attention could conclude that your type is directly influenced by Dave himself. You think he’s stunning. Like the movie-star to your. Movie-star. Honestly, you’re the hottest couple you know, and you think you’d both make a killer cliched sort of villain couple. Or killer heros. Fuck it, you make a killer duo no matter what the context is. You feel in your heart of hearts that there is no more attractive couple in the multiverse. 

You still remember the time you saw him smile. Like, a real smile, instead of a closed mouth kind of smirk-- though you love those too. It was night, at the park, on a swingset, and you were struck dumb. You really wanted to see it again. You’re so delighted when you can; his happiness is arresting and important. 

Also, his hair is soft. Also, it’s really light blond. You love blond hair. It’s your favorite hair color.

His eyes are interesting. You never go out of your way to look at them, you know he doesn’t like it, and frankly eye-contact is hard for you to maintain anyway. You don’t think you’d personally find anything especially noteworthy about them if he didn’t go to lengths to hide them in public. But the fact that he does, and the fact that he trusts you enough to take his glasses off around you, or even send you that one photo of his eyes changes things. You’re not going to call them beautiful or ugly. It goes kind of beyond that. More like an honor.

There are occasions that catch you off guard. Occasions that you don’t acknowledge to yourself or to him. Occasions where you look at him and see flickers of Davesprite. Occasions where looking at his face and seeing his jaw set like Davesprite’s did draws out feelings of guilt, as if you’re cheating on him. And you’re never sure who “him” refers to in those situations. Part of you expects Davesprite to manifest in those moments, and he’ll catch you out, and you’ll lose them both. You swallow those moments because you can’t ruin things. 

You know your love for Dave is an entirely different love than the kind you had for Davesprite. How can it be cheating if it’s different? You’re not copying. 

Dave’s patience seems nearly endless to you. Or maybe just when it concerns you. There are times when it seems like it’ll never run dry, because you haven’t found the bottom of it yet, and you don’t know if you could. He’s supportive, even when the problem is extreme.

You remember arriving fresh out of the game, with pressures from every angle, and how Dave had plenty of his own problems. He tried to be the fulcrum, to get everybody to function, and help them be in a semi-decent place. Things were chaotic and he was trying to keep things steady, to improve the situation from all angles, because all of his loved ones were a mess and he was the underpaid janitor going room to room. 

And he just wanted to be weak. He wanted to be vulnerable, and though you hate to see him unhappy, you’d hate to see him suppress it even more. He kind of... has the right to be vulnerable. 

Dave is your boyfriend, and you won’t let anything but his own feelings take that away from you. You didn’t think romantic love could be experienced without hurting after Davesprite. And it can’t, not 100% of the time, but the relationship between you two proves that it’s more than worth it. He’s doting and kind and sappy and you LOVE being cute with him. It doesn’t matter if your affection is saccharine! He likes it no matter what you do. He’s supporting and encouraging and empowering. Too important.
