𝙂rim woke up with an ear piercing scream that came from the corner of the bedroom. He immediately woke up because he has never heard you scream before— he's heard you squeel and cry, but screaming bloody murder? In all the months he's been with you, amidst the overblots and dangerous situations you two find yourself in, you have never screamed bloody murder before.
He shot up from the bed with his fur standing up and prepared a fighting stance while looking around the room.
"WHAT? WHAT HAPPENED? DID SOMEONE STEAL THE TUNA?"
Your screaming turned into cries, and he glanced worriedly at you. "NO. THIS IS MUCH MORE WORSE THAN THAT." you wailed while holding your phone with an undying grip.
You curled up in a fetus position. "My reputation..." You paused for dramatic effect— or because you were being dramatic, who's to say? "Is ruined..." You whispered under your breath.
Grim calmed down after realizing that you two weren't in danger and it was just something that you were upset about— speaking of, what were you upset about anyways? There weren't any thieves or any school activities today since it's literally Saturday, so what gives?
"Eh? What are talkin' about?" You looked up at him with watery eyes "m-my digital letters was released..." Your eyes held that dreadful emotion inside "to my old crushes" then, as if a dam broke out, you started to cry again, you hiccuped and sniffled as you tried to contain all of it to say something. "I-I thought that-" you hiccuped "I buried it deep in my notes app!" You sniffled. Grim's face turned to worry, to realization. "Wait- ya' mean those things that wrote while kickin' your feet in bed?" You nodded while sniffling. His expression then turned to realization, to smug "oh, those things? Yeah I sent it to them to help ya' confess your feelings to them"
The room turned ghost-quiet after his statement.
"You what?"
"... I sent them to yer' crushes...?" He said nervously.
You turned around slowly with a neutral expression— not your usual neutral expression, oh no certainly not, instead this was much more blank and screamed 'I will murder you in the next ten seconds if you don't take back what you said' kind of expression.
You held up three fingers. "You have three seconds."
Grim's hair stood up and he took a step back in reflex. "THREE SECONDS TO WHAT???" he screamed while backing up; meanwhile you were standing up slowly while keeping eye contact. You tilted your head and smiled— a smile that didn't reach your eyes, "to run of course!"
He bolted— that was the first time he actually ran with fear and confusion, and he did not like how you were just standing there doing nothing.
"WAIT NO I'M SORRY PREFECT! I DIDN'T MEAN TO-"
You sat down on the dinner table with test streaks on your face, you groaned and slumped to your seat while staring at your phone. "How do I respond to them..." You cried while tracing patterns on the table.
Grim sat across from you with a bump on his head, he grumbled as he adjusted the ice pack on his head. "I don't know why yer' so worked up about this, ya' can just tell them y'know?" Your eyes twitched at that. You snapped your head to him "you want your tuna confiscated too?" He went dead silent and stiff, he shook his head hurriedly and took a step back Instinctually. "Exactly. Now keep quiet because I'm trying to fix the problem you-" you pointed your finger at him "caused" you glared at him.
You sighed and picked up your phone.
You screamed and cried while pushing your phone out of your reach.
"GRIM THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT"
"I WAS TRYIN' TO HELP YA'!" He shouted back at you while pouting. You sighed then laughed, the mentally deranged laugh that you do when everything goes downhill, because this is all going downhill. You were just going to be relaxing and doing what any normal human being would do with free time, but of course, Grim had to fuck it up and make more problems.
You glanced at him. "I'm never going to give you cuddles ever again" he froze, looked at you with a horrified expression, "I SAID I WAS SORRY???"
You turned your back from him as he continued to grovel on your feet; meanwhile, you picked your phone back again.

Ok, can we talk about how almost all of the third years are so against human connection?? Or at the very least don’t value it very much, leaving them all pretty isolated.
Think about it.
Cater is always keeping people at arms length, only having superficial and surface level relationships because he’s afraid that if it goes any deeper than that he will hurt himself when he thinks he will eventually need to say goodbye.
Leona avoids interacting with literally everyone, and when he does need to go to any kind of social function, he will groan and complain about it the entire time and will just insult everyone.
Rook does not like people asking about him at all and asking any personal details is really the only way you could possibly make Rook upset. He’s already been pushed away by everyone else all his life so he just won’t let himself truly connect, besides with Vil who’s the only person who accepted him fully.
Idia is the least social being in all of Twisted Wonderland, and he would stay in his room all day and never talk to people again if he could. He simply hates himself too much to truly believe anyone would want to talk to him, and even if somebody did want to talk to him, he doesn’t think a relationship like that could last because of his fate with Styx.
Malleus, despite desperately wanting social interaction, completely fumbles all attempts at it because nobody thought to teach the literal heir to the kingdom how to talk to people normally. And these failed attempts at interaction actively push people even further away so he’s stuck in this constant cycle of loneliness.
You would think that Lilia would be better, but this is the guy who tried to straight up abandon his kids and leave for another country because he couldn’t fathom the thought of anyone wanting to be around an old man like him.
Trey and Vil are the most sociable of the third years, but even then, Trey is far too passive to really push for any kind of connection if the other person is even a bit too stubborn, and Vil can sometimes be too busy or too strict in his routine to really make connections a lot.
(These are all very overly simplistic explanations of the characters and their relationship with social interaction, but still)
Compare that to the other grades. The second years aren’t the closest, but they still have some form of community. In Book 7.5, they’re all sitting at the same table together (the third year’s technically did this as well, but that was mostly due to the fact that there was literally no where else for them to sit), they have study sessions like in the anthology manga, and have their own inside jokes like calling Silver+Kalim the “Facepalm Brigade.” Then of course there’s the freshmen who need little explanation as to their built community; they consistently sit together at lunch, they train together to help master their unique magic’s, they literally plan slumber parties (I know it’s to help Yuu get home but STILL). It’s clear that the freshmen are all pretty close to each other. And then there’s the third years… they barely hang out or talk, and even when they do, it’s rather mean spirited.
And I can’t help but think it’s very fitting, especially considering what a normal high school dynamic looks like. Usually the underclassmen are the ones who haven’t exactly “got it” yet; they haven’t grasped the school’s culture and how things function. This usually presents itself with the freshmen/sophomores being more disrespectful, loud, mischievous, etc. But in NRC, a school that almost encourages a culture of disrespect and troublemaking, this dynamic of the underclass men not getting it manifests more in their connections. The freshmen are more willing to rely on other people and work together as a team, they’re more willing to make connections. The sophomores are less willing and there’s honestly a lot of distrust between all the sophomores (I mean, how could there not be when you got the Octotrio right there ready to scam you at any moment), but they will still collaborate if need be. Then of course the juniors, the upperclassmen who have reached an understanding of the school’s culture, don’t value that connection and teamwork, because it hasn’t helped that at all in the past. That’s not how this school works. You get to the top by dragging others down and relying only on yourself and your own abilities. At least, that’s probably how the juniors see it, I think it’d be really interesting to see what the current junior’s freshman year was like and how differently they behaved then. Obviously they weren’t like completely different people, and since a lot of their distrust can also stem from their trauma, there was likely at least some of that same isolation we see now. But I wonder if they were at least a little more willing to work with others. A bit more willing to connect. Until they realize that it’s not benefiting them, and is only hurting them. Then they isolate themselves, start seeing their peers a bit more negatively, and their dynamic becomes a bit more similar to what it is today.
Idk, this isn’t as well explained as I’d like it to be and way to wordy, but just a thought I had and wanted to share
