Laurel is a second generation Korean American. A halfling born to a Seelie fae mother and a human father she spent most of her life on the outside looking in, never truly belonging to either world. Like all halflings she spent her childhood unsure if she would inherit her mother’s abilities or if she would end up being a human like her father but with a supernatural aura. This alone was terrifying to her and for most of her childhood she had a deep sense of uneasiness with waiting to find out her fate- though she knew she couldn’t change it whatever it might be.

Like some other halflings she knew, Laurel experienced a decent amount of bullying growing up. Some of the supernatural community were never overly fond of halflings and often considered them inferior. More often than not in her childhood she was called a half-breed- a term she loathed but became accustomed to. Even as she grew older, hit maturity and inherited her mother’s abilities she still often felt like she had no place in either world and that the only people who ever would truly accept her happened to be members of her own family.

Despite all of her problems fitting in growing up Laurel always felt a strong connection to the fae community- and it was there where she did happen to find the only people she actually considered her friends. While connecting and fitting in was difficult she did find a small group among the fae who welcome her with open arms even before it was determined which parent she would follow after. And she could admit, to herself, that she may have even developed a crush on a fae or two despite being aware that no good could possibly come from it. After all, halflings can be your friend but nothing more. Or at least that was what it always seemed like.

Because of the difficult time Laurel had in the supernatural community growing up she often finds herself at odds with most of the members. On good days she finds herself most comfortable around humans, fae and other halflings; on bad ones she feels as though she still doesn’t belong anywhere and that no one, not even the people she had come to know and trust deeply truly care about her. It is a sad and lonely existence that she keeps hidden behind a kind smile.

The only solace that she ever seems to find is working at the tea shop. There she can give people what they want, infuse the tea with energy and live quietly. No hatred, no bullying, no unkind words- at least not where humans ears can here. Some less than pleasant members of the supernatural community still give her problems from time to time. But her skin has hardened over the years and most of the time she doesn’t let them get to her. But she can’t deny that deep down their words still hurt her.

And a part of her always wonders if she’ll ever really belong in the community at all.

Being born in the Bolton family was more intimidating than people could think. Evelyn was a very important woman in town, she was well known for her strong powers and her kind heart, and then there was Jack, a very strong man who was a known firefighter and very respected for how devoted he was to protect the people of New Orleans.

People expected great things from the kids of such important people. but when Daniel was first born, he never shown that much greatness, he was a hyperactive kid that got into trouble, skipping school, getting into place he shouldn’t be and breaking silly rules just because. He was not the perfect kid people expected from Evelyn and Jack, but he wasn’t a bad kid either, his powers were not the most impressive was, his brother was always better at them, even at school he was much better, but Daniel was kind and was very physical skilled, so that gave hopes to his father.

The older of the Bolton siblings did everything to make his dad proud,he used to help him out in the kitchen of shift, and everyone always loved when the kid came to cook for them, he knew all the station and everyone was almost certain that he was going to soon be working after he left high school. But he was giving the option to travel around America or join the firefighter department, and Daniel just took the one he loved, the one that made him happy so he left New Orleans to travel the world and learn from it.

Even as Jack got furious by his choices his wife convinced that he was still working for the family and it was something that would make their kid happy, so eventually he let go of his sourness.

Daniel worked all his travel, learning not only from the witchcraft community around old Latin-america, but also from the culture, the food, and the language, he fell in love with every aspect of it. When he finally arrived in Mexico on his way up, he met Adriana Ventura, she was not a witch, but it was like she put a spell on him, from the minute he laid eyes on her, he just lost it. He knew there was something different about her, but little did he know just how different she was.

Falling for a woman from a different culture was hard, one that talked a whole different language made it harder, from a different social status was a little tabu, but falling for a whole different species now that made Adriana and Dan a bit of a forbidden love. Neither of the families were happy with them being together, it hurt Daniel that his family kept asking him to come back home, to stay away from the pack of wolves, he was seen as a threat and threatened animals were even more dangerous and unpredictable.

As strong as their love was, life and the deep feeling of serving their family finally ended up winning, so Daniel got back home with a broken heart and the need to feel like his father was still proud of him. He split turns with him to take care of his dad’s beloved bar and becoming the firefighter he wanted him to be. Daniel wasn’t happy but he kept busy not thinking about it and making him take some radical actions as joining fight clubs to release stress and anger.

One shitty night of a very tough week, Daniel’s temper got the best of him. There were four men at the bar bothering all the customers, they were new in town and they were just giving Daniel the best excuse to fight. The oldest of the Bolton kid’s was not the best with magic, but he was good, so fighting supernatural creatures was not something that worried him, but neither of the four werewolves was really up to a fair fight, they ended up attacking Daniel brutally and almost to death as he tried to fight back, he was bitten by one of the wolves, changing his life forever.

When Daniel came back to life, he was not sure what had happened, all he knew was that he was no longer his old self, he was the first werewolf in the family since a century, so he was now learning to walk again, with new powers, a new way of feeling life, totally lost and scared. He left the firefighter force and dedicated completely to his father’s bar. As always he suppressed his anger, his fear, to act like nothing had changed, to make his family less stressed and make everyone feel comfortable. Daniel was slowly becoming a time bomb but luckily someone from his past came back, Adriana, the love of his life was back to guide him through his new life, to find balance, so see the wolf inside of him as a blessing and not something he should fear and to find some peace despite all the chaos that was surrounding him.

HISTORY:

Peach was born the third child- and only daughter- to a wealthy Georgia family. Born into a life of privilege and wealth she and her elder brothers never wanted for the material things in life. But the emotional side was an entirely different story. Constantly reminded by their parents that her eldest brother Beau was their favored child- first born male, excelling in everything the man put his mind to- the youngest McCallum grew up with a certain sense of resentment towards her eldest brother. The juxtaposition of that emotion coupled with the love she felt for him and the knowledge that he loved her in return made their relationship complicated throughout their childhood. Beau did his best to be there for herself and Jackson- he went to every event, supported their interests but their parents and their preferential treatment put a damper on her relationship with her eldest brother and the girl always felt as though she never measured up to their parents expectations.

Peach was raised as everything a southern girl of high standing should have- grace, poise, interest in the arts and music. She made her social debut with every other girl of her age- and loathed every moment of it. Constantly feeling stifled by the life her parents wished her to leave Peach decided to move to New York for her college education. There she quickly decided to go by her middle name instead of her first- too many New Yorkers making jokes about Georgia peaches got old. But as she had so often in her childhood she grew restless with the structure and lifestyle her classes afforded.

Soon, much to the dismay of her parents, Peach dropped out of college and continued to live in New York, her life completely bankrolled by her inheritance. She shopped lavishly; she partied constantly. Everything she did was seen as being done simply for the pleasure of it- and she supposed that it was safe to say she took pleasure from it. However, for Peach it was more than that. It was a desperate attempt for the attention of her parents that she had been so lacking in while she was growing up. Perhaps if she disappointed them enough, if she blew through enough of their money, they would finally sit up and pay attention to their youngest child.

Her plan succeeded in the worst way possible- her parents cut off her only money source. Broke and living far away from her childhood home Peach found two options lying before her: she could either return home to her parents with her tail between her legs or she could turn to her eldest brother. Despite their difference she knew Beau would be there for her but the decision to turn to him was a difficult one.

Selling a few of the expensive items she had purchased in her time staying in New York the youngest McCallum made her way to New Orleans where her eldest brother had made a home. Checking into a cheap hotel for the first couple of weeks until she could find at least some kind of job the blonde tried to give herself something to lean on before showing up at her elder brother’s door. Now the former socialite is living with her brother and making what money she can working at a local coffee house. And wouldn’t her parents just be so proud?

It’s no secret to the supernatural community who the Dragoumis family is. They are to some the definition of dark, not the kind that kids fear underneath their beds. This is the kind that swallows people whole with expectations of blood being enough to bind all. Dragoumis wasn’t short of priding themselves in it, true blood magic. Melanie grew up seeing all sides of her family. Born on the summer solstice, youngest of three she constantly watched her siblings looking to them for what was right and wrong.

Large, and dark. The words floated in her mind since she was a child, an unknown want swarming around her. Melanie could never place what she was missing, but when people looked at her - like sweet little Mel, it gave her a thrill. Something about doing no ‘wrong’ to the people around her was exciting. Melanie was always there, listening behind a closed door or watching from a window. She knew the things her family said about one and other, the true indifference people held. The idea of being looked at or talked about in such a way made her skin crawl. One of the only ways she knew to stay in the good graces was to be just like everyone else. All too easy she found it.

Practicing dark magic from day one she soaked in it, the feeling like lightening hitting you. Her siblings eventually choosing light Melanies all but convinced herself if she steps away from the dark she’ll be alone. A safety net that’s kept her sane when the twins weren’t there. Without them around Melanie often times was stuck entertaining herself, her family finding it enthralling the young girl engrossing herself in studies trying to prove she belonged there. Even the older members of the family sometimes took a step away from her for the effort she was putting into the practice. Pushing boundaries that most wouldn’t dare, who it hurt in the process sometimes didn’t matter but she did it all too well with an innocent smile. On some level she hoped it made her siblings proud despite their difference in loyalties. When she was old enough, Melanie stepped out of the family home and got her own place.

Those outside the family - the normal people see simple Melanie, the girl in love with her herbal garden and keeps the blinds closed when families visiting. as for the supernaturals, no one gets close enough to know if Melanie lives up to the families reputation. And those who have see the want still floating in her. Still consuming the good parts of what’s left of Melanie. She’s never been bad though, not in the way some are - her parents find it amusing their naughty ‘little one’. Since leaving them Melanie has kept herself in check, practicing behind closed doors and in the darkness, keeping the facade of the most innocent Dragoumis. She’s only recently picked up a job to keep herself entertained, of all places the girl choose the newly opened position of Host and historian to the LaLaurie House.

The Ventura chain of hotels was well known all through Mexico, the family owned business having started from one small bed and breakfast, growing continuously into a brand that was easily able to rival the top hotel brands for luxury accommodations in Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations. The family was considering expanding into Cuba, which is where then-heir Fernando Ventura Reyes met and fell in love with Rosa Espinosa Abrantes. After a whirlwind romance, the two of them decided to get married and Rosa moved to Mexico to be with Fernando, stepping easily into the life as a wife of a high powered businessman. They were the picture perfect business couple, though most of the world didn’t know the truth - they were also full-blooded werewolves.

The two wolves were blessed a few years into their marriage with a baby girl; Adriana Marisa Ventura Espinosa, a feisty pup who had both of her parents wrapped around her little paw from the moment she was born. Rosa was a natural as a mother, and Fernando, though he found it difficult to express his emotions to a child, took care of Rosa and Adriana the best way he knew how, by expanding their business and building a life for the three of them, as well as stepping up and leading their pack when the previous Alpha stepped down.

That life came crashing down around them when Adriana was only 4 years old. Her mother had been pregnant with a second child and due to complications from childbirth, both Rosa and the new baby didn’t make it, leaving Fernando a broken husk and Adriana without a mother, and eventually feeling like she was without a father as well. Fernando still loved Adriana – loved her dearly, especially as she was all he had left of his beloved Rosa, but she was still a child, and one he didn’t know what to do with. So he continued to care for her the best way he knew how as he trudged through life, focusing all of his energy on the business his family had built and that he had grown exponentially. and on the pack. Adriana never wanted for anything, enjoying the finest schooling and tutors, cared for and taught the ways of the pack by other members. The only thing that was missing was the palpable love of her father, who still couldn’t bring himself to express his emotions in any way other than showering his daughter with gifts and money.

In line with this thinking, feeling as though setting his daughter up with the best future possible, Fernando had also been pushing Adriana toward a relationship with the son of his current second-in-command, ensuring in his mind, that even when Fernando was gone, his daughter would be well taken care of. Raúl started off as a nice enough boy, chivalrous and kind, near doting in front of others, but when he was out of the spotlight he was apathetic, uncaring of what Adriana wanted or how she felt. Despite her father’s wishes, she never felt drawn to him enough to start a relationship with the other wolf, preferring instead to remain single.

When she was 19, she met Daniel Bolton – an American warlock whose kind nature and zest for life weren’t feigned at all. It would be cliché to say it was love at first sight, but it was. It took her awhile to realize he was her true mate, but still Adriana was instantly taken by the man; caught up in his happy-go-lucky attitude and craving more of the normalcy that he brought to her overly charmed life. He had a way of making her feel more like her true self than she ever had – at least since her mother had died. For the first month of their time together, Adriana flew under the proverbial radar, pretending to be nothing more than middle class at best, not wanting to change the way Dan looked at her. That all changed when Dan needed a place to crash, and knowing she couldn’t leave him in the cold, Adriana pulled some strings and got him settled into one of the suites in one of her father’s hotels. Dan now knew the truth about her real life, her father’s status as pack Alpha, but unfortunately it also meant that her father found out about Dan.

Needless to say, Fernando wasn’t impressed, even after Adri told him Dan was her soulmate. He viewed Dan as nothing more than a foolish witch with no life plans – certainly not the type of man his daughter should be with. In his mind, it was Adriana throwing away her future on a pretty face. He started to pressure his daughter into making nice with Raúl, pointing out the various reasons they should be together and how they were perfect for each other, and how happy it would make him to see her with Raúl. It was her father’s approval and hopefulness that finally broke her, as Adriana craved both so desperately that she was willing to put her own happiness on the line for him. With a heavy heart, she encouraged Dan to continue his travels after 2 years together, not wanting to put him through the heartbreak, in the hopes of gaining her father’s love and approval – something that had always felt like it was missing from her life. She continued to message Dan and call him from time to time, looking forward to getting his emails with photos from the new places he was visiting. Eventually Dan’s family called him back home, to New Orleans, and since they didn’t approve of Adri anymore than her father approved of Daniel, the two of the decided to cut off communication; which to the she wolf felt the same as cutting off a limb.

Now, a decade later and things have changed. Her father still wished she would be with Raúl for the longest time, but after a close call with the Alpha of a rival pack, he and Adriana mended their fences, finally seeing eye to eye after her whole life. When an allied pack in New Orleans, the center of supernatural activity in the United States, called, her father answered, moving the entire pack to one of the many hotels owned by his company. They still live there now, though having run into Daniel - the warlock now bitten and turned into a werewolf himself - she is with the man she always should have been, and what’s more; they have her father’s approval. Her life seems perfect, except for the encroaching darkness - the whole reason they were summoned to NoLa in the first place.

As a general rule witches are known as beacons of light; the guardians of nature. Unlike the wicked witches of mythos for centuries they have been known as the helpers of mankind, keepers of the balance, lights in the darkness. And for the most part that remains true- save for the Dragoumis family. For like humanity as a whole is both light and dark so is magic- and the Dragoumis family lends itself to the darker side of what magic has to offer the world.

Malachi and his twin were born into a family that took pride in their darker roots. In generations past the family thrived on blood magic, sacrificial magic. Lives were lost in the pursuit of power, of enlightenment- of more. Many in the supernatural community knew of their reputation. Some feared them, some revered them, some were disgusted by them- but none could deny the power found within their dark dealings. Nor were they certain of whether the rumors that their powers came from deals with demons was true or just that- rumors. While the days of sacrificing lives for the pursuit of power has long since passed- more than a century than anything of the like has taken place within the family- the dark stain remains on the family. And the power still resides deep inside of them, marred forever by darkness that seemed to envelop the entire family whether they wanted to follow that path or not.

Growing up Kai never got bogged down in the deep roots of his dark twisted family history. In fact, most would describe Malachai as a go lucky happy kid. The young child always had a smile on his face and tended to be a mischievous kid finding trouble everywhere he looked, yet something about his adorable smile and sweet personality spared him any repercussions from his naughty ways.

As he started getting older and his powers were developing his family insisted on him practicing the dark arts and increasing his knowledge set and power Kai tended to blow off studying and practicing the craft for the arcade or hanging with friends. For the most part Kai was a normal rebellious teenager that stayed up past curfew, partied and blew off school. Those who knew of his blood lineage always questioned whether he was a dark warlock assuming great magical strength, though many would be shocked at his mediocre hexing skills. To say the least, Kai has great potential in the art of spells yet lacks the ambition to be what his family envisioned.

Now as an adult, Kai remains extremely close with both his siblings. Especially his twin sister who he tends to act as if they are attached to the hip. Everyone that knows them knows they are a package deal and he probably will be the reason she ends up an old maid. Malachai still lives a rather irresponsible life hoping from one occupation to another. Nothing ever seems to stick. Either, he grows bored at his current job or gets terminated for his lack of responsibility and often times coming to work high. Despite his flaws, people still are attracted to his good nature personality.

Alicia’s family is as normal can get. She’s a born and raised Northerner from New York City. Her family’s home was in Bedford-Stuyvesant, in Brooklyn. Many outside people would still think it’s simply ‘New York City’ but it’s a quieter area, residential. It’s a reason her parents choose to settle there. Alicias father, Elijah, was from Ireland originally coming to America for business where he met the Queens Queen Maria Elena who had a mouth like a sailor.

The two didn’t hit it off at first, however Alicia’s father constantly came back to the family shop just to see Maria Elena. It was a gradual thing but eventually the woman said yes to a date. Thankfully for the two it went like a bad rom-com but made for the best first date tale. It wasn’t long after the two starter dating when Maria found out she was pregnant and from a strong religious house hold Elijah asked Maria to marry him. It’s when Alicia came into the picture. A more than welcome blessing regardless of wed-lock status or not. Much like her mother she was a sailor with words leading to a lot of nervous laughter around other parents and apologies. However her own were amazing, understanding and never telling her what she thought or wanted was wrong but simply asking her to think it through or explain the action or process.

During her teen years it showed through greatly on how it helped shape Alicia. The dark haired girl was constantly stopping fights in school, or helping calm a class room. While outside she was a ‘protector’, watching over her friends and family like a guard dog. When her mothers mom passed away, Maria was a bit more distant with her father. During her first years at NYU her parents choose to take a break. Due to that, Alicia wasn’t able to face either of her parents, thankfully in her mind she had no siblings to worry about. Choosing to leave NYU, she transferred to the New Orleans based School of Caking. Not that her passion for baking was incredibly strong but it was in a city that always called to her. Her first year was lived on her funds from the city which quickly ran out.

Leaving Alicia almost needing to drop from school, she found a job at Cafe Du Monde. A few other classmates serve there, it’s how she got the job in the first place. One just enough to make rent. But to be 'happy’ she needed a few extra dollars, a previous dancer at Danse Noire, and a regular at the Cafe, suggested to check the place out. Despite not being a dancer, nor wanting to be one, Alicia serves the guests drinks and tends to keep an eye out for the dancers and manager. Every so often she’ll talk to her father or mother, though the two are living together again Alicia decided to stay.

HISTORY:

Henri Moreau was born as a third generation necromancer- and the first male in his family to be one. Though many in the supernatural world either looked upon necromancers with either fear or disgust Henri was always quite proud of who and what he was and took to it like a fish to water. He proved himself just as strong and capable as both his mother and grandmother if not more so and carved a niche for himself among the supernatural community as one you could go to for services regarding the dead- including ones that may be considered less than scrupulous.

With his life firmly placed within the darker side of the supernatural world the last thing that anyone ever expected- least of all Henri- was for him to find his soulmate among the Seelie. Beings that were often associated with light magic weren’t on his radar but upon meeting Desiree the connection as undeniable. Both of them tried to ignore it due to their vastly different lives and personalities. They tried to ignore it so much that for a long while they both wondered if perhaps they had been mistaken, if the connection would fade or go away; perhaps it had merely been infatuation rather than a true bond. In the end, however, neither could deny the bond between them and eventually they gave into it, bonding though never truly marrying in the eyes of the human world.

This union bore to children, the eldest being their daughter Persephone. Named after the Greek goddess of spring, an homage to her mother’s connection with nature and her people once being worshiped as gods the young girl was shown to inherit her mother’s species rather than her father. It was a mild disappointment among the Moreau clan who had hoped for another necromancer to continue the line but Henri’s love for his daughter quickly overshadowed any disappointment the man may have felt.

But more to the point, Persephone- who took on the moniker of “Del”- showed from an early age that while she may have taken after her mother genetically she was drawn to the darkness like a moth to the flame. While Del had never been outright involved in the darker side of magic she held a strong fascination with the dead and with the magic her father wielded, often accompanying him on his various work trips and watching him work. Desiree often worried about the influence such things had on a young girl but she knew stopping Del from exploring her father’s nature would be disrespectful.

Del’s fascination with the realm of the dead didn’t end as she grew- which is why it was a surprise to no one when she took a job at Belle Mort while still in high school. These days she spends most of her time either at Belle Mort or working as a waitress part-time at Southern Jewel. Her fascination with her father’s magic continues to this day and though the woman is often seen as a very good-natured and kind individual she’s still, as some might see, abnormally fascinated by the darker side of things.
