Unwavering Resolve
A quick, urgent knock resounded through the room, scarce minutes after Yuri returned to it. He'd just had enough time to sit down and pull off one boot when it came so, with a slightly exasperated sigh, he pulled it back on and got up. Repede lifted his head where he'd gone to lay as soon as they'd gotten back, looking between the door and Yuri as if to say 'Do you have to get that?' The knock came again, more insistent than before. "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming." Wasn't he popular. Great.
Yuri pulled the door open and blinked in surprise. He'd been expecting someone from the Lower Quarter, maybe looking for help with some small matter—not a retinue of knights, lined up behind Sodia and LeBlanc. A quick survey of the faces told Yuri this was no social visit.
"What's up? Flynn working himself to death again?" he asked since no one seemed to want to speak up.
There were a few beats of silence in which the look on LeBlanc's face grew pained. Sodia's expression was difficult to decipher, somewhere between anger and...was that...fear? Yuri began to expect the worst. Had something actually happened to Flynn? He opened his mouth to begin asking a more serious question, but Sodia cut him off.
"Yuri Lowell."
He waited.
"You are under arrest. Come quietly. Any resistance will make things worse for you."
Was he hearing this right? He was under arrest? But he hadn't done anything of late to warrant that that he could think of. By most people's standards, he'd been nearly a model citizen. Sure, there were a few things here and there, but never anything serious or harmful. "Mind telling me what for?"
"Murder. Turn around." Sodia pushed her way past him into the room as she spoke.
Yuri turned, following her. "Oi..." One of the knights took the opportunity to move in and binding Yuri's arms tightly behind his back. Yuri didn't fight it—he'd been through this far too many times to bother. Whatever this was, it'd get figured out in the end.
Unless this had something to do with Cumore and Ragou. Was his past finally catching up with him? It was kind of amazing that he'd been able to walk free for so long, if he thought about it. After all, his friends had found out about what he'd done. It wasn't inconceivable that someone else had seen his actions, too.
Repede stood and growled menacingly, but Yuri shook his head. "It's alright, Repede." His partner whined, but let his hackles fall.
"Going somewhere?" the female knight inquired, gesturing at his still-packed bag.
Yuri raised an eyebrow. "Pretty sure you know that I just got back, considering your timing."
"We don't know where you have been, Lowell." She turned back around to face him, anger now burning unbridled in her eyes. "Take him."
And with those words, it was back along the familiar path to the castle and to the jail cells. People murmured and pointed as they went and, from the reactions of those, especially in the Lower Quarter, Yuri got the sense that the entire city was afraid. Of him.
How hadn't he noticed?
Maybe Flynn would have some answers.
