My URFight Experience
So on March 20th, my girlfriend, my co-host “Nasty” Noah, and myself went to the URFight even in Phoenix, Arizona at the Celebrity Theater. Now, lemme preface this by saying I was ONLY going to see Kurt Angle wrestle, I’m not an MMA fan, and we sat next to a bunch of fellow marks. And here’s my review of the night:
Dan Severn Promo Dan Severn did not fight at the event as scheduled. There were three different opponents lined up (first one being MMA legend, Ken Shamrock) after the previous one wouldn’t commit. However, he did come out and talk to the crowd and he also sat four rows in front of me.
Shannon Ritch (w) vs. Maverick Harvey During the first part of the match, Maverick knocked Ritch out of the ring and just started putting HANDS all over this dude. However, Ritch caused Harvey to tap out from a submission hold in the second round.
Chael Sonnen vs Michael Bisping (DRAW) This grappling match ended in a draw. This match was extremely boring with very little takedowns. The entire time (with all do respect to the boring grappling we saw) we were yelling out, “Get to the real wrestling! Bring out Angle!” Good sports about it afterwards, but still I was so bored.
RiFF RaFF Performed Three Songs During Intermission Nobody knew his music. Nasty Noah and myself were banging like... well like two white boys listening to obnoxious rap music such as RiFF’s.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio (w) (2 out of 3 Falls) This match was legit as hell. The entire time we were stereotypical marks saying the most obnoxious stuff while the match was going on.
Roy Jones, Jr. (w) vs. Vyron Phillips Bro, Roy Jones Jr. might be a little past his prime, however the man can STILL beat your face into your ass. The first round was a whole lot of nothing but dancing around, but come the second round, Jones knocked Phillips flat on his face. In good sportsmanship, he did give him a hug after the bout.
Things to note: I legit marked out when I saw Jim Ross arrive. Then seeing Kurt Angle made me wanna scream like an excited five year old kid. RiFF RaFF doesn’t know how to hold a mic when performing Sucks for Vyron Phillips for not winning the $100,000.
