This week we interviewed one of my favorite producers/graphic deisgners a web legend and bass pioneer Alfred English
Favorite Track Right Now?
My favorite track right now has to be ‘No Type’ by Rae Sremmurd produced by Mike Will Made-It. I thought No Flex Zone was going to be my summer jam until they dropped this and secured themselves in as more than just a one hit wonder. I think those dudes have great flow, two distinct voices, and the ability to write extremely catchy hooks. Not to mention they have Mike Will producing bangers for them every time.
Who's Killin it'?
PC Music is killin it right now. I drop everything and listen to whatever they put out as soon as I see it hit my soundcloud stream. I love the way they’re releasing music through interesting websites that are more than often designed by my peers. The ambiguity as to how they function is also a major part of their appeal, constantly putting out songs by artists that seem to pop up out of nowhere, yet maintain the signature PC Music sound. It’s a very playful approach to a label that’s really redefining the way that a net label can function on the internet.
The last album you listened to?
Last album I listened to is DJ Dodger Stadium – Friend Of Mine. I just moved to LA like two months ago and this record has been the perfect soundtrack to my introduction to this city.
Favorite image right now?
My favorite image right now is only inside my head but it’s a pair of white Jordan’s with glass soles sitting in a white room in front of a pile of old high school basketball trophies. The shoes are in the foreground and you can see some of the trophies blurred through the glass soles.
How many tracks do you download a week?
It really depends on if any albums I’ve been anticipating also came out that week, but I’d say between 8 and 12
Favorite blog spot?
Facebook feed
Favorite music video right now?
My favorite music video for like a year now has been the video Daniel Swan did for Gunge on his song UR-MA-LADY-BB/NEVER-ENOUGH. Daniel
is mad talented at creating 3D environments it just blows me away.
Which soundcloud do you spend the most time on?
I spend the most time listening through my Likes section in my car
Biggest Influences?
I’ve talked about this a lot, but my biggest musical influence is Lone, and he has remained my biggest influence for close to 4 years now. The way his music speaks through emotion to induce movement is so inspiring to me. He can explore so many different tempos and genre influences yet still maintain a sound that is so not just consistent, but also true to himself, and that is what I hope to achieve with my music ultimately.
How many days till your upcoming album?
I’m working on putting together a release, but there is no date yet. I’ve already done the art for it though.
Which one of your songs would you say, you have played the most?
Well within the past couple months it’d have to be Dream Degauss. I’m extremely pleased with how it came out, but most importantly I feel like it’s very true to me and to the sound I want. I feel proud of it. I feel proud like that song is my son and he just came home from school with a report card with all A’s.
If you could tell someone a direction to go in while producing what direction would it be?
I wouldn’t tell them what direction to go in, unless they were really good and knew what they want, and specifically wanted tips on how to market themself more efficiently. At that point they could hire me as their creative director (y)
Favorite Footwork Track?
Good question! My favorite footwork track for a looooooong while has been Rubbabandz by DJ Earl, DJ Taye, and Heavee. I think it starts extremely strong and does nothing but continue to climax until the song ends. It’s so well put together rhythmically you can’t help but dance through the whole track. When those chords kick in and the beat drops half-time it’s such an insane moment. I love how the rhythmic programming can be so polyrhythmic but actually help make the track dancier. Footwork is just probably my favorite thing to hear in a club setting and I’m so honored to have shared the stage with legends like Spinn, Taye, and Clent.
Favorite Pop Track?
Luxurious by Gwen Stefani is one I’ve been going back to a lot recently. I have a super crush on Gwen Stefani’s brain I think she’s dope as fuck. It’s been my dream to produce a song for her for years now. I think she’s just the best.
Favorite Movie?
I don’t watch a lot of movies. I like shitty reality TV like Bridalplasty and Lizard Lick Towing. I’m really into the concept of cinéma vérité. I’d love to produce a reality TV series someday and be the person behind the camera stirring up the pot. I basically want to be a behind-the-scenes fuckboy who makes your television programming more interesting.
Well that was great stay tuned for more producer q&a's in the future.....

URLFUTURE UNVEILS SECRET PROJECT (LIFEPEN)
LIFEPEN
What is LIFEPEN?
Getting artists connected and involved in collaboration with one another has brought us a tonne of extremely enjoyable and wondrous musical experiences. Left of Field and Urlfuture wanted to combine the ideas of connecting artists from all over the world and to raise awareness for such an important yet silenced issue. When we relate the pen and suicide we would tend to think a suicide note, but since it’s a matter of perspective we can easily have that flipped.
23 artists from all across the globe will be taking part in a collaborative project that will involve contributing one song from each of them to be put inside a special USB pen that will contain every single one of these songs along with much more exclusive content you won’t be able to get anywhere else.
45% of the money that we receive from everyone who purchases a pen or chooses to contribute to this cause will go straight to various suicide prevention charities and to organizations that helps in the cause of repairing mental health and improving quality in life.
There is always someone you can talk to. Always someway to connect, this collaboration sends that message.
Where does the money go?
As we mentioned above, we are going to directly donate 45% of the money we receive to various suicide prevention organizations and with the rest correctly recycle the funds so we can keep producing the products that people have purchased.
Here’s an idea of what the LIFESHIRTS will look like.
Our Focus
LIFEPEN is focused more so on raising awareness for this unheard of and underestimated problem. The money that is raised will go to help further the outreach and capabilities of various support organizations. However this is all depending on the amount of support we receive for this project, which is why we want to make sure awareness and giving people a realization for the differences they can make is important to us.
Risks & Challenges
We face many challenges in regards to delivering our promises and providing everyone a quality product at an affordable price.
Fortunately we are going to take the time to try and make sure all LIFEPEN products are shipped out on time when purchased. If something hasn’t been shipped when indicated we will do our best to get it to you as soon as we can.
there is alot for us to organize, and as a DIY label with only a couple people working on this entire project, there is a lot being asked of us. But rest assured we are up for the challenge and are looking forward to what we have to show you all.
Other Ways You Can Help
Spread the word! If you can’t afford anything just make sure people hear about this cause, let people know that you are there for them and that everything is going to be okay.

New Release From Kahsun
Kahsun, also known as Patrick Collins, is a one man sound warping machine. Hailing from a stain upon a rock in space know to many in the milky way galaxy as earth. With influences such as Flying Lotus, Marquinch Mogule, Bahwee, Juj, Teebs, Nujabes, and Daisuke Tanabe, Kahsun doesn't really like to be compared to anything. I love green tea, my girl Ayesha, my turtles and playing rpg games. I am currently working on a couple collaborations and VOL.2 of the Encephalon Voyage Series. Just released a free beat tape entitled, "side.trip" on my bandcamp which you can locate right here: https://itskahsunyo.bandcamp.com/album/side-trip
