omg wait wait wait they are friends!!!!! this is breaking news to me. i couldn't help but wonder that when i saw bring it all. he reaches out to stop jett from running out after viper before she even moves and that feels both like protective older sibling energy. and also Something Only A Friend Would Know She Was Gonna Do. the argument could be made that he's a hunter and therefore observant but i choose to believe it's because they're friends

one of my fave silly hcs abt sova is that he's into birdwatching on like a ridiculous level and him and skye bond abt that. they're friends on the merlin bird app it's a whole thing. he invites jett once since she's a big fan of his owl but that was A Mistake. she's INTERESTED but she doesn't want to look at the birds she wants to catch them and that would be fine except she's fast enough to actually do it. that gets her a big lecture from skye about not disturbing the natural wildlife but skye didn't wait for her to let go of the bird before starting the lecture so jett's just standing there like :woman_standing:

even after leaving, she keeps them there on her shelf.

ok let's talk about this it's time first of all, anytime you watch the incursions cinematic ever again just think about the fact that the first like 20 seconds was a freaking nightmare. which means that for a second, before Ω-jett showed up, jett got to be sunwoo again. do you think she woke up grieving? woke up wishing she could've changed the ending, or that she'd savored the beginning while it lasted? she's buried so many versions of herself. graveyards full, and she'll never be done digging, never be done running. i did so much zooming and photoshopping to try to clarify and brighten this entire area above jett's bed:

this is the unclarified version. yk why? bc it DIDN'T FUCKIN WORK. i still can't see shit except that there's a plant, the hat and necklace, and the top picture looks like it might possibly be jett cooking and i'm 90% sure she's wearing her hat in that pic [author's note: my vision is kinda dogshit rn i am well overdue for an eye exam] anyways my whole point is, that whole shelf looks like it could have some really intense meaning for her. a shrine of sorts, to sunwoo. to her sister. to her shitty parents who she'll still always feel the pain of both grieving and never really having to begin with.

also, on a semi-related note: yk how in incursions she grabs the stray cat before getting out of the line of fire? kinda reminds me of how in bring it all, not only was jett's first instinct to go running and try to help viper, but sova's first instinct was to pull her back. because he, just like basically anyone else who knows jett, knows that she's more than willing to put herself in danger if it means helping someone else.

i bet she looks over at phoenix and neon and kj and raze sometimes and just thinks fuck, i wish i could've met you in a kinder lifetime. i think you would've loved who i used to be.

raze makes kj beaded glasses-holders so she can shake her glasses off for near vision and not lose them on the floor. kj orders her custom hearing aid skins and charms.

i highly doubt viper's mask is just for battle. with how much she messes with poisons, i wouldn't be surprised if she had some breathing problems and sometimes requires casual use of her mask as well

i have done no research whatsoever on this but i feel like the mask could EASILY be set up to provide a dose of albuterol either at viper's command or with an integrated pulse ox sensor in her gloves maybe? or both! both is good! i have mild asthma and i DON'T make a habit of breathing in poison, so here's my limited concept of how breathing issues would affect viper in her day-to-day life: colds and flus and covids will be hell, absolute hell and misery and impossible to work through. she would need to use a nebulizer or the aforementioned mask setup in place of an inhaler because an inhaler would likely be unwieldy given her tremors. also i think viper uses her fancy poison science to help sage with the agents' Medical Issues. at any given time she could be cooking up annihilation or accommodation in that lab of hers and it's just a fun game of Wait And Find Out :) now get ready, because i have a viper-related infodump that you are gonna LOVE. it is entirely unrelated to the content of this ask. i'm putting it under the read more for the sanity of anyone who didn't sign up for this shit lmao. it's uh. it got a little more wordy than i intended

i have a headcanon abt her and it involves linguistics so i know you're gonna like it. i saw that one post about how viper pronounces/enunciates things (i have been trying to find it to properly credit the op but i can't seem to track it down) and i have a theory. viper's from the united states but unless i'm missing some lore we never got info on what state she's from? okay follow me down this train of thought rq. there's a river that runs from louisiana to east texas. it was originally named río de sabinas, which translates to "cypress river," and sabinas got anglicized as...u guessed it...sabine :) pretty much anyone who has ever spent significant time in east texas or louisiana has driven past, swam in, and/or fished in the sabine. or received those godawful river flood warnings during any rainstorm at all. i am definitely not doxxing myself rn. if i get one more call text or email about that fucking river i'm gonna toss my phone into lake pontchartrain and go off-grid forever anyways i personally think viper's from louisiana and has cajun roots. and if there's anything cajuns love it's naming towns after rivers and then naming people after those towns.

"but viper doesn't have a cajun accent" this brings me to the next part of this infodump the cajun accent in particular is fascinating to me at least because a lot of the idioms and pronounciations come from the merging of cajun french + american english + the languages spoken by other groups in louisiana in the 1700s + 1800s, both settler and indigenous (german, gaelic, haitian creole, spanish, chitimacha, houma, tunica, and caddo). if i start talking about cajun idioms my alligator mouth will write a ticket that my hummingbird ass can't cash so i'm just gonna move on i was raised in louisiana and my accent was Quite Prominent as a kid. i don't know if you've ever heard a really thick cajun accent but my wife and i watched cajun pawn stars once and i had to translate for her, so there's that. mine wasn't so deep it needed to be translated but it was Noticeably Different for sure anyways, when we moved up north i started imitating a standard american english accent because a cajun accent sticks out like a sore thumb in the north. since i moved at a pretty young age, my accent disappeared quickly, but for the first about 3 months of being up north my fake accent sounded...like a british person imitating american english. my mother also tried to change her accent, but it didn't work since she had been speaking to other cajuns for 30+ years at that point. so she had a public voice and a home voice. her public voice sounded like.....a british person imitating american english. this is all anecdotal evidence for my headcanon that viper moved from louisiana to a northern state, maybe as a teenager or very young adult. but definitely not as a kid because i think she would've ended up almost fully adopting the dominant accent of the region she moved to if that were the case. now, here are some of the differences between cajun english and standard american english: first of all, cajun english is non-rhotic and standard american english is rhotic. that's gonna lead to differences in how the postvocalic /r/ is pronounced i think? secondly, french-language phonology led to some pretty major differences in consonant features in cajun english, such as: th-stopping, h-dropping, g-dropping, l-deletion, metastasis of the /sk/ cluster, and a variety of differences in aspiration and palatization for the p, t, k, d, and g consonants. note that every single one of these factors HEAVILY depends on where in louisiana a person comes from and also where in louisiana their parents came from. cajun english, unlike a lot of other southern regional dialects, is not subject to the southern vowel shift. this leads to some differences in nasalization, specifically for words that are loaners from louisiana french and thus contain vowels not found in standard english. typical american gliding vowels have reduced or no glide in cajun english, and the lexical stress for some words transfers to the second or final syllable of words that are typically pronounced as dactyls or trochees (those are literary criticism terms not linguistic terms but They Work Here i think). final consonant deletion + inclusion of nasal vowels with nasal consonants + transfer of nasalization to additional phonemes is also a thing that happens the previous paragraph holds the bulk of my reasoning for this entire theory. it's also the end of my insight on this subject. i have no idea how these facts about cajun english could affect viper's current speech but i am positive someone does and i think it has to do with nasalization. i am not near as knowledgeable about linguistics as you and whoever made the viper post (op if you're reading this you're the coolest ever and i want to be mutuals) so literally everything you just read could be wrong, literally all of it. what's the opposite of infodumping? himbo-dumping? that's me. i have no idea what i'm fucking talking about but i'm sure talking.

he is always, always acutely aware of how many radiants are in the room with him. he probably feels what he can only describe as an itch for his knife whenever he sees them using their powers. every single radiant he knows is automatically a threat, automatically registered, automatically judged.

OH WOW I AM SUPER NORMAL ABT THIS WTF there's something. hmmm. there's something really important to me abt this photo including the 4 people who have had their entire identities completely changed by their abilities or the direct consequences of having said abilities neon: her struggles with controlling her lightning + the decent possibility that her metal was meant to act as a conductor + i'm certain k-sec probably utilized her powers in a similar manner to how they utilized kj's inventions. canon to me jett: seoul, venice, need i go on? phoenix: the performing arts school + his involvement with the vp being the main reason for his strained relationship with mary killjoy: not a radiant but in all honesty she is to me in a lot of ways. her intelligence is a weapon that was placed into the wrong hands and used against her without her knowledge. she struggles to rectify her experience with that of the people around her. isn't Radiance really about a profound lack of autonomy and a strong sense of isolation from the rest of humanity or am i just projecting and then i think about how kay/o is also an example of that same phenomenon. his programming can literally be changed at any point and overnight radiants go from being enemies to being neutral, and eventually, friends. he's automatically and instinctually judged, but he is also programmed to do the same. he's Not Considered Human and yet is capable of meaningful interaction with other humans, which puts him in some sort of unsettling liminal space between technology and humanity. experiencing existence in a way that nobody else on earth can relate to except maybe klara killjoy bohringer idk something about all of them being in this particular image just really spoke to me.

oh also my friend pointed out that though everyone calls neon sonic due to similar colours and powers, she's actually more similar to shadow, at least personally: he was experimented on but stayed there because family was there (just like how neon was tested on in kingdom, but stayed because her family said it was good), and also wears inhibitor rings which act and even look a lot like her surge protector and additional metal. sick how that happens huh

oh i was thinking about this like a couple days before you sent this ask!!

the answer i landed on is persistent post-concussive symptoms + hyposmia and hypogeusia (decreased smell and taste, respectively). my hc is that she had a long recovery after a TBI, and that she lost her taste and smell for awhile as a result of said TBI. it came back eventually but not all the way.

i also think her personality changed in ways she didn't expect after the injury and that she probably still struggles with some executive function related difficulties as a result as well

also, funny personal sidenote, i have decreased taste and smell due to long covid and it affects me very little now but back when it was no taste and smell my prior workplace caught on fire and i found out via ✨ email ✨ because i didn't smell the smoke and the fire alarm didn't go off. 💀 and that's skye-coded to me
