meta : frank hardy + her feelings . okay , so this has been a long time coming . i’ve said it many times , but i’ll say it again : the endgame for nancy drew is frank hardy . he completes her , makes her whole in ways she can’t explain . he’s basically her soulmate , if such things exist . i talk about these two constantly because they’re fucking canon , more so than nancy & ned . idk i’ll be exploring how they met [ my own canon since idk anymore ] as well as what the novels say about their relationship . then i’ll talk about why they’re perfect for each other . oh god .
01 ---- MEETING . so i imagine these two meeting while nancy’s father is on a business trip . turns out that the hardy’s father & nancy’s father are pretty good friends , so they visit them while in bayport . nancy meets the brothers , joe , muscular & everything , with a knack for fun facts about historical events . then there’s frank , not as athletic as his younger brother , but tall & with a build to him . he’s logical , always thinking . ( nancy herself was passionate about horses , quiet but loud when she wanted to be . ) their meeting was quiet , with the adults talking amongst themselves & the three attempting conversation . once or twice , frank had disappeared & come back with a smile on his face ------------ lopsided , innocent . she’d followed him the third time , finding him outside , sitting on the porch . she’d started talking after a while . d’you like the stars ? / they’re nice i guess . / well if you look over there , you can see the big dipper but if you don’t wanna look . . . honestly , it’s pretty cool . he looked . glanced . started talking about a telescope he had hidden in his room , at the back of his closet . offered to take it out for her , but never did .
02 ---- NOVELS . the novels were something . this is gonna be short , since there’s not much to say about the novels’ input & this is probably the only time i’ll talk about them , but yeah . the attraction is mostly one - sided with frank having a crush on nancy , while she’s dating ned . however i feel like nancy had feelings for frank as well . ned was sweet , he was an amazing boyfriend , but she didn’t deserve him & he didn’t deserve her . she was gone far too often & he was in college . long - distance things didn’t work out very well , i bet . but they were still in love . but nancy still fell for frank . in the books , specifically the supermysteries , the two flirted with each other --------------- but they were dating other people . bess remarked every once in a while about francy happening .
03 ---- THEM . i’ve spoken about them so many times , but honestly ???? i can never bore of them . they’re the endgame , one of the few canon ships i associate with nancy . frank hardy is nancy’s unsolved case that she’d allow to stay unsolved . he’s the moonglow boy to her sunset girl , her rock , her steady back home . he makes her feel complete , no matter how hard her hands may shake , or how loud she may scream at night , or how much she shivers due to fear , he calms her seas . makes this siren feel as if her work is complete & her birds’ suit can be evacuated once & for all . i bet that when she was growing up , when she worked on cases with the hardy boys , she’d lag behind frank just a bit because he smelled so strongly of pine needles & cinnamon . she’d break eye contact with him so quickly because his eyes were so vast , so large that she could get lost in them if she stared for so long . anything he did , from his smile to the way his forehead wrinkled when he frowned , was enough to make her cheeks burn & her knees buckle . she loves frank hardy . she admires frank hardy with her entire heart , nothing can ever change that .
