Malcolm is a truly spectacular animal. Yesterday night was the first time he truly bit me - and what a bite it was! I remember just taking a deep breath as my finger bled and thought: how do I show him he hurt me? He's an animal. He reacted to me manhandling him (I needed to move him away quickly and he panicked). I can't punish him, not only because rats don't react well to that, but because he didn't do anything wrong. I was really worried Dog (yes that's the cat's name) wouldn't like living in a car. He was a house cat for his entire life to that point. But he grew to love it and we live in a symbiosis - he usually wanders around during the night, sometimes, if he likes the place we're at, stays out during the day, but he always, always comes back.
