The Strange Case of Chip-Chan
The concept of living your life under unending surveillance is unsettling Orwellian nightmare for most people. In an age where privacy is becoming a growing concern, especially with the advances in technology that allow us to have some form of camera on our person at all times, the thought may have crossed your mind as to whether or not at some point in time, someone has hacked in and watched you without your knowing. With that discomfort in mind, can you imagine your entire life being broadcast for the world to see on a webcam? For almost a decade, that has been the case for the anomaly known as Chip-Chan.
Chip-Chan, who's real name we may never know, is a woman living in South Korea whose life has been available to watch on a live stream since at least 2008. She was originally discovered by a 4chan user who stumbled upon her feed and thought she was dead as she was laying motionless in the corner. But the truth is, if you check into her feed, you are most likely to find her in exactly that position. She is estimated to sleep upwards of 20 hours every day, and to catch her while she's conscious is a rarity. This alone is strange enough, but it gets even more bizarre.
Chip-Chan claims that in 1999 she was kidnapped by a police officer who was stalking her and has been held captive ever since. She also claims that the officer, whom she only identifies as 'P,' implanted a chip into her body and has complete control of her life, including her bizarre sleeping patterns. As for how she is able to afford to live like this, she had said that both her parents are dead and left her with a large inheritance that 'P' wants. Occasionally, 'P' comes to visit her, and when that happens, the cameras are shut off.
There are many rumors regarding Chip-Chan and a lot of questions still unanswered to this story. And while some suspect her disturbing story might be true, many think she may be suffering from some deep psychological problems instead. The truth is, no one knows what's really going on with Chip-Chan. As of today, her life is still streaming live for others to see (see the links below).
Chip-Chan also runs a blog as well which can be viewed here:
